A terrifying classic is being reborn for the streaming age. Apple TV unveiled the official trailer for its upcoming psychological horror thriller, Cape Fear. Boasting an incredible pedigree of Hollywood heavyweights both in front of and behind the camera, the 10-episode limited series brings a legendary tale of vengeance back into the cultural spotlight. With Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg on board as executive producers, the series promises a dark, gripping, and deeply suspenseful summer event.

Inspired by John D. MacDonald’s original novel The Executioners and Scorsese’s acclaimed 1991 cinematic remake, the new Apple TV series follows happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson). A terrifying storm is headed for their family when Max Cady (Javier Bardem)—the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars—is finally let out of prison and sets his sights entirely on vengeance. The series is also directed by Scorsese.

Stepping into the chilling role of Cady, Bardem brings his Academy Award-winning intensity to one of cinema’s most famous antagonists. Beyond the central trio of Adams, Bardem, and Wilson, the impressive ensemble cast is rounded out by Joe Anders, Lily Collias, and Malia Pyles. The supporting cast also features strong appearances by CCH Pounder, Jamie Hector, and Anna Baryshnikov.

Hailing from UCP and Amblin Television, the series is guided by creator and showrunner Nick Antosca. To ensure the adaptation maintains its premium, cinematic quality, Academy Award nominee Morten Tyldum stepped in to direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer.

With an unbelievable cast, legendary producers, and a timelessly terrifying premise, Cape Fear is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about television events of the year. Audiences can prepare to hold their breath when the suspense begins unfolding on Apple TV on June 5, 2026.
