Justice Department Says It's A-OK for Paramount to Acquire Warner Bros.: Report

The U.S. government is smiling on one of the biggest potential entertainment mergers ever, as the Justice Department’s Antitrust Division has approved Paramount Skydance’s $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, Politico reports.

The decision, according to sources, did not include any requirements for “divestitures, behavioral remedies or concessions.” This may pave the way for the David Ellison-run studio to become one of Hollywood’s biggest mega-studios.

That still doesn’t mean the deal is a sure thing: Remember that back in December, Netflix was considered a lock for the WBD acquisition. Currently, multiple attorneys general at the state level, including California Attorney General Rob Bonta, are exploring their own antitrust lawsuits that would prevent the merger from taking place — even as David Ellison does everything he can to keep the Trump administration on his side.
