KIA Unveils Its Retro-Futuristic, All-Electric EV9 SUV

The South Korean automotive brand KIA is charging ahead with its line of electric cars, and expanding the line in size figuratively and literally is the all-new EV9 SUV.

Following on from the EV6 and EV6 GT, the marque delivers on its Internet-breaking concept car reveal with the official road-ready EV9.

The futuristic-looking SUV was designed with the brand’s “Opposites United” philosophy in mind. The result is a boxy, pointy exterior that works alongside elements of serenity and cleanliness, contrasting the rugged attitude and capabilities of this off-road-enabled machine. Clear-cut lines, vertical lights, a “Digital Pattern Lighting Grille,” “Star Map” LED daytime running lights and plenty of chiseling make the front both minimal and intimidating, while the large rear is accentuated with two oversized lights, leaving plenty of empty space and simplicity.

Similarly, the geometric wheel arches add another touch of retro-futuristic ruggedness, while the wheels deliver more stark contrasts with their black bars darting off from the corners of a black central lock. It’s all rather fresh, and certainly makes KIA stand out among the rest of the brands entering the EV space.

As for the interior, KIA presents an equally fuss-free set-up comprising two 12.3” touch-screens for the infotainment system and a five-inch driver’s display, while the second row of seats can swivel, making it feel like a lounge environment between the second and third rows.

Power comes courtesy of an electric motor, of course, but little is known about what the EV9 is packing. Expect it to continue on from the EV6’s 77.4kWh battery at the very minimum, offering upwards of 300 miles of range and fast charging.

More information is expected to come upon the global release of the car in late March. Take a closer look at the KIA EV9 above, and stay tuned to Hypebeast and Hypebeast Car Club for more information as news unfolds.

Elsewhere in the automotive world, it’s said that Porsche will launch an electric Cayenne by 2030.
