Lucy Dacus pledges $10,000 to gender-affirming care in response to Trump executive order

As Trump’s second term begins with a new wave of anti-LGBTQ policies, including an executive order targeting trans and non-binary individuals, Lucy Dacus is pushing back.

The boygenius member shared on Twitter, “If trans people wanna comment surgery GoFundMes, I’m gonna give away $10k in $500 increments until it’s gone.” She cross-posted the call to her Instagram stories, encouraging the folks reading through the replies to join her and donate if they felt so inclined.

“The government will never be the source of our validation or protection,” the singer-songwriter continued. “We have to do it ourselves.” The thread has accrued hundreds of responses since being posted this morning.
