Noah Kahan Calls Out Fans for Stealing Vermont Road Sign Named in His Song

Noah Kahan has pleaded with his fans to stop stealing a sign for a road mentioned in one of his songs.

Kahan put out a social media post Friday saying he’s been informed that the Alger Brook Road sign in the Vermont upper valley town of Strafford has been repeatedly stolen. Kahan sang about the road in his song “The View Between Villages,” the final track of the singer-songwriter’s 2022 album Stick Season. “Past Alger Brook Road, I’m over the bridge/ A minute from home, but I feel so far from it,” Kahan sings.

In the Instagram story, Kahan called the thievery “a total disrespect to the folks who live on that road and a headache for the town to deal with.” He explained he used to live on the road, inspiring him to put it into his song.

“I hate that because I put the road name in a song that some people have taken that as an invitation to disrupt the lives of the hardworking and kind folks who frequent it,” Kahan wrote.

Kahan offered to connect with town officials about ways to stop the theft and pay for the replacement before apologizing for the thievery. In a show of his roots, he also said officials could get in touch with his “amazing mom” to reach him.

While speaking out against the road sign stealing, Kahan also took the chance to protect his privacy, saying that his fan “community has grown much larger and for that reason I feel l should again remind you all about how deeply protective l am over my family’s privacy, and of the sanctuary of where I am from. Please don’t disturb these places or people.”

Kahan is currently on a North American tour that lasts until August. Fans can look for tickets here.

In April, the singer-songwriter unveiled his 2027 Out of the Blue Festival, announcing topliners Hayley Williams, Mt. Joy, and The Head and the Heart.
