Paramount Pictures Announces ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ Reboot

Paramount Pictures Announces 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' Reboot

Paramount Pictures has officially closed a deal to reboot the iconic horror franchise A Nightmare on Elm Street. The studio has successfully acquired the U.S. rights to adapt the original 1984 screenplay from the estate of legendary filmmaker Wes Craven, marking a new theatrical era for the legendary slasher property.

The upcoming feature project will be developed under Paramount Primal, the studio’s newly established genre label designed to produce smartly budgeted films across horror, comedy, action, and science fiction. The new division is spearheaded by producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, the creative team behind notable genre hits such as Barbarian, Weapons, Companion, and Friendship. While specific plot parameters and character casting remain strictly under wraps, the film will be set squarely within the established universe of the original classic and will feature the return of the iconic dream-invading killer Freddy Krueger.

Craven’s estate, represented by his widow Iya Labunka and his son Jonathan Craven, will actively produce the cinematic project alongside attorney Marc Toberoff, who recently assisted the family in regaining legal ownership of the franchise’s foundational script. The team aims to introduce Craven’s mythology to an entirely new generation of theatergoers while respecting the deep cultural legacy of the original 1980s film.
