Sony Pictures has released the official debut trailer for Zach Cregger’s upcoming ‘Resident Evil’ reboot
Austin Abrams stars as Bryan, a medical courier who finds himself fighting for survival during a sudden viral outbreak
Co-written with Shay Hatten, the survival horror feature opens in theaters and IMAX on September 18, 2026
Sony Pictures and director Zach Cregger have officially debuted the first trailer for Resident Evil. The upcoming survival horror reboot introduces a fresh story set within Capcom‘s iconic video game universe, featuring Euphoria actor Austin Abrams in the lead role.
Co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4), the film centers on Bryan (Abrams), a hapless medical courier tasked with delivering a package into Raccoon City. What begins as a routine delivery quickly devolves into a nightmare when an outbreak collapses the city into chaos, forcing Bryan to navigate mutated creatures and deadly biological threats in a non-stop fight for survival.
Diverging from previous film adaptations, Cregger’s direction shifts away from traditional zombie tropes to focus heavily on body horror and T-virus mutations. The supporting cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, and Kali Reis, with production backed by Constantin Film, Vertigo Entertainment, and PlayStation Productions.
Resident Evil opens exclusively in theaters and IMAX on September 18, 2026.
