HB: Budweiser’s Music Is Yours To Take, presented by Hypebeast, is a movement that celebrates artists who own their rhythm and redefine the scene. As a band performing at the event, how do you see Rosalyn fitting into this narrative?
We’ve always wanted to do things our own way, creating whatever we hear in our heads without overthinking it. It all comes together when we try to craft something dreamy, with grooves, floaty spacey synths, and deep lyrics. That’s the kind of sound we feel truly represents us.
It’s also such a great feeling to be part of this amazing lineup. We’ve looked up to YONLAPA since the very beginning, and KIKI is another group we really admire. In our opinion, they’ve helped level up the indie music scene in Thailand in a big way.
HB: What’s the ideal way to experience Rosalyn’s music: at a live show, in a personal moment, or in a specific setting?
Definitely in the evening or at night. When we write music, it always feels like it belongs to the night, whether you’re alone or with someone. There’s something intimate about that time of day—it can be quiet and reflective, the kind of space where you really sit with your thoughts and process everything in your life. Our songs tend to carry that mood, so we feel they really suit an indoor setting, something like a mid-sized room. Marshall would be a perfect space. It would be really interesting to perform there and see how the atmosphere complements the sound.
HB: How do you see Rosalyn’s place in Thailand’s evolving music landscape?
We just want to stay true to ourselves. No matter how the scene changes or evolves, we feel we’ve developed our own definitive sound. We’re not really into following trends—we just lock into what we genuinely want to create. If it feels authentic to us, then that’s what matters most. Hopefully, people will find it unique and maybe even fall in love with it… hahaha.
HB: Your sound often feels cinematic, blending dreamy textures with raw emotion. What first drew you toward that direction?
I think we’re just a bunch of emotional folks, hahaha. We really enjoy deep conversations, beautiful scenery, and the simplicity of life. Whenever we travel together or start writing a new song, we always try to remind each other of a specific road, mountain, or beach, and we aim to channel that feeling into the music.
We take time to talk through each track—what it’s about, how we want people to feel—and that helps us stay connected to the same vibe. Each member brings their own emotion into their instrument, but it all comes together to express the same feeling.
HB: How do you translate the cinematic quality of your recordings into the energy of a live performance?
Live and studio are a whole different ballpark. The simple, straightforward answer is: we have to get our sound right. The synth layering, the reverb-twangy guitar, the punchy air-like bass, and the intensity of the drums all need to be really tight. The rest is just about remembering the true feeling of the song and playing it with both good technique and good feel, boys… hahaha.
HB: If Rosalyn could collaborate with any artist or brand in the world, who would be your pick and why?
Urgh, there are so many artists we’d love to collaborate with. Honestly, each of us would probably give a different answer! Working with Tame Impala, MGMT, or Air would be really cool—they have such unique sounds. For something more duet-like, maybe Clairo or Night Tapes would be amazing. Why not, right?
HB: As a band, how do you usually approach songwriting? Does it start with one member’s idea, or is it always a collective process?
It could really start with anything—a catchy humming melody we vibe with, a cool bass riff, or even just a chord progression. We’ll sit down together and build around that. Anyone in the band can bring an idea, and from there, we work collectively to take that initial inspiration and shape it into a full piece. It’s really a team effort, passing ideas back and forth until the song comes to life.
HB: Bangkok is buzzing with subcultures, from nightlife to streetwear. How does that environment shape Rosalyn beyond just the music?
We’re from Ekkamai, so that’s definitely something we’re proud of. There’s this 2000s-era, post-Ekkamai-Thonglor vibe that influences how we create art. It shows up in the way we carry ourselves, our fashion, and even our overall influences.
HB: If Bangkok were turned into a song, what’s one place in the city that feels most like a “Rosalyn track” come to life?
Ekkamai, hahaha. As we mentioned before, it’s kind of a cool place to be, especially in the early 2000s—and honestly, it still is. That nighttime energy really suits our tracks: dark city vibes, dirty alleyways lit up by the bright lights from tall condominiums. It’s got that atmosphere we really connect with.
HB: If you could imagine Rosalyn’s music as a soundtrack—whether for a film, a city, or even a late-night drive—what would it be?
Late-night drives in a Blade Runner–style sci-fi world. That’s the vibe we imagine. When we were finishing up our track What’s Up, we really had that Blade Runner atmosphere playing in the background. It definitely influenced the mood of the song.
HB: How do you imagine Rosalyn’s journey evolving in the next few years, both in Thailand and internationally?
We really hope to tour in either the EU or the US someday. We’ve enjoyed playing across Asia—whether in Japan or Taiwan—it’s honestly been such a vibe, and we truly appreciate the support. Now, we’re curious to see how Western crowds will react. We wonder if they’ll find our sound exotic, unique, or just really different.
HB: Budweiser’s Music Is Yours To Take, presented by Hypebeast, is all about amplifying creativity. What message do you hope to leave with the audience and emerging artists after your set?
Just be yourself and never be afraid to explore your own sound. That’s what truly sets you apart from the rest. We hope our journey and our tracks give confidence and inspire the next generation to explore their own sound and express their true inner thoughts.
