Bruce Willis Could Appear in Future Projects Thanks to Deepfake Twin

Bruce Willis was forced to retire from acting earlier this year after being diagnosed with a language disorder called aphasia, but we may see him on screen for future projects thanks to the use of deepfake technology. Last year, Willis worked with an AI-powered technology firm called Deepcake so his likeness could be used in a commercial without stepping a foot on set. Engineers at the company used AI technology to create a 4K “digital twin” of Willis by loading 34,000 “image fragments” from movies like Die Hard and Fifth Element into their neural network. That data was then used to superimpose his face onto the face of understudies with “surgical precision.” Though making Willis’ replica was a 14-day process, Deepcake claims their engineers only need “three to five days” to recr...

James Earl Jones Abdicates Darth Vader Voice Role to AI Technology

James Earl Jones has apparently relinquished the role of lead Star Wars antagonist Darth Vader to AI voice technology. The 91-year old actor and EGOT winner originated the character with his vocal performance in 1977’s Star Wars. In a report by Vanity Fair about the Ukrainian start-up Respeecher, it was revealed that the process of transitioning the vocal responsibilities from Jones to the company’s proprietary AI algorithm has been ongoing since the Sith Lord’s revival in the 2022 Star Wars prequel series, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Respeecher programmers employed an algorithm that uses archival recordings to create new dialogue. Jones provided his singular, sinister take on Darth Vader for a number of Star Wars spin-offs throughout the years, but his last contribution came in 2019’s The Ri...

Artist Uses AI to Imagine What Dead Musicians Would Look Like Today

Have you ever wondered what members of the 27 Club and other dead celebrities would look like if they were still alive? Photographer and lawyer Alper Yesiltas has attempted to answer that question by using AI technology to create portraits of celebrities including Kurt Cobain, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Janis Joplin, Tupac, and Heath Ledger. Yesiltas recently shared the first collection of the project, titled “As If Nothing Happened.” Other AI-generated images in the series include Freddie Mercury, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and Bruce Lee. “With the development of AI technology, I’ve been excited for a while, thinking that ‘anything imaginable can be shown in reality,’” Yesiltas wrote about the project. “When I started tinkering with technology, I saw what I cou...

The Incoming Tech Helping SMBs Deal with Cyberattack Threats

Image sourced from Forbes.com. The cyber threat landscape for businesses of all sizes is terrifying. According to the World Economic Forum, risks are increasing exponentially, while the rate of detection and prosecution is frighteningly low at a rate of below 1%. Organisations, especially small businesses, already suffer the greatest threat to their ongoing viability and require an automated solution if they are to stand any chance of overcoming this critical business risk. These factors have been a crucial driver for the development team at AaDya, which strives to make security accessible and affordable through partners like SLVA Cyber Security. Patrick Evans, CEO of SLVA Cyber Security, explains that even though AaDya solutions are aimed at small to medium businesses, its offerings are c...

How AI & Machine Learning Can Provide Defense Against Cybercrime

Nowadays, threat actors are leaning on new tools and techniques to improve the efficiency of their attacks. Only artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning move quickly enough to defend organisations in this evolving cyber threat landscape. “In the past three months, we’ve been seeing more speed and speed can kill,” says Derek Manky, Chief Security Strategist & VP Global Threat Intelligence at FortiGuard Labs. Threats have been getting into a system, hitting the targets, exfiltrating data, demanding ransom, and getting out of a system, much quicker than normal. This includes attackers capitalizing on new vulnerabilities, zero-days and n-days. They also appear to have become more aggressive, with double extortion, triple extortion and targeted attacks. “Their approaches are more ...

Capitol Records “Severs Ties” with AI Rapper FN Meka After N-Word Backlash [UPDATE]

Capitol Records has “severed ties” with AI robot rapper FN Meka, whose use of the N-word in previous songs resurfaced after his signing to the label. In a statement, the record company issued an apology to the Black community for not “asking enough questions about equity and the creative process behind it.” “CMG has severed ties with the FN Meka project, effective immediately,” the statement reads. “We offer our deepest apologies to the Black community for our insensitivity in signing this project without asking enough questions about equity and the creative process behind it. We thank those who have reached out to us with constructive feedback in the past couple of days — your input was invaluable as we came to the decision to end our association with the project.” FN Meka’s recently rele...

Can Metaverse technology enhance human-AI efficiency?

Conversational AI systems in the metaverse resemble human-to-human communication. Voice assistant AI has found its way to the metaverses of the new era, powering use cases like lifestyle assistance and personalized recommendations. For instance, rather than driving to a travel agency’s office or talking to their overburdened customer service, users can hop on the metaverse and take a tour of multiple awe-inspiring locations with the assistance of an AI-powered bot. An AI concierge in a metaverse is a personified machine that delivers unique recommendations based on the avatar’s preferences. Take into account the amount of data available on every person and you know the potential of this use case. Natural language processing in the metaverse makes it more personal than the real ...
