William Shatner Reflects on “Overwhelming Sadness” from 2021 Space Flight: “It Felt like a Funeral”

William Shatner has opened up about his 2021 space flight with Blue Origin in an excerpt from his newly-released book, Boldly Go: Reflections on a Life of Awe and Wonder, shared via Variety. The essay details the preparation for the space shuttle launch on October 13th, 2021, which included Star Trek’s original Captain Kirk in a record-breaking endeavor as the oldest person to travel to space at his then-90 years of age, as well as some of the surprisingly grim takeaways from his ascended viewpoint. After admitting to some apprehension that stemmed from engine anomalies, a contingency plan if the rocket exploded pre-flight, and a recurring image of the Hindenburg disaster, Shatner shared his experience with g-force and his impression once the four-person crew reached weightlessness. “Every...

Eddie Vedder Covers The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” at Tour Finale: Watch

Eddie Vedder delivered a cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” on Friday at a Las Vegas tour stop with his backing band, Earthlings. The rendition arrived at the beginning of the encore for the group, which features current and former RHCP members Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer, longtime Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, and producer-guitarist Andrew Watt. It marked a new addition to their covers-filled finale, which also included Prince’s “Purple Rain” and George Harrison’s “Isn’t It a Pity,” and it was fresh for the band as well, with Vedder remarking, “We’ve never played it before. We only played it about an hour ago right before we came out, but we’re gonna try it now.” The Pearl Jam frontman also tied the song to a sweet memory from early COVID quarantine times when he and his ...

Grinch Horror Movie, The Mean One, Coming This Christmas

There’s another Grinch film in the works, but in this project, the green ghoul’s heart probably won’t grow three sizes. XYZ Films is plotting a horror take on the beloved Dr. Seuss character called The Mean One, with David Howard Thornton (Terrifier 2) set to play the titular character. Directed by Steven LaMorte from a script by Flip and Finn Kobler, The Mean One parodies The Grinch by tweaking many of the story’s key details. Rather than Whoville, the creature lives on a mountain overlooking the town of Frazier Park. Young Cindy You-Know-Who (Krystle Martin) is orphaned after the Grinch kills her parents, and 20 Christmases later, she returns to Frazier Park in search of closure only to learn that the monster’s bloodlust hasn’t faded. The Mean One will stream for...

Wednesday Addams Trailer Reveals Christina Ricci’s New Character and Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester: Watch

The official trailer for the upcoming Netflix Addams Family adaptation Wednesday has arrived, and like any long-awaited family reunion, there are a lot of new people to meet and a few familiar faces that look a bit different since the last time we saw them. Jenna Ortega stars in the Tim Burton-directed solo series for the titular teenage daughter of the Addams Family, who is sent to Nevermore Academy after a horrific piranha incident previously shared in the show’s teaser. After a series of unusual occurrences including an attempted murder, Wednesday summarizes her new digs in her signature, sardonic delivery with “There’s just something wrong about this place, not just because it’s a school.” On top of fleshing out the series’ overarching mystery, the trailer also introduces a number of n...

Keanu Reeves Exits The Devil in the White City TV Series

Keanu Reeves has left Hulu’s upcoming The Devil in the White City series, Variety reports. A replacement has yet to be cast. Based on Erik Larson’s 2003 book of the same name, The Devil in the White City centers on Daniel H. Burnham, the architect of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer who, in more sensationalized accounts of his life, constructed a “Murder Castle” to lure visitors into his grip during the event. Reeves was supposed to portray Burnham, while Holmes has still not been cast. The Devil in the White City was going to be Reeves’ first major television role. The Hulu series was the last in a long line of potential adaptation for the book: Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner attempted to bring the story to the...

Track by Track is a recurring feature series in which artists share the story behind every song on their latest release. Matt Damon’s 10 Best Roles

Top Performances is a recurring feature in which we definitively handpick the very best performances from an iconic actor or actress. It has been updated for Matt Damon’s 52nd birthday. It’s not enough for Matt Damon to be conventionally attractive, or even physically imposing. He also has to be preternaturally intelligent, a savant capable of outwitting a Fields Medal-winning mathematician, a ruthless Russian card shark, or a millionaire casino owner, as the occasion may demand. This is the curious truth at the center of Damon’s career: Though he’s got all the looks you could hope for in a leading man, it’s what’s behind those steely blue eyes that keeps us coming back for more. Maybe it’s because he played a boy genius in 1997’s Good Will Hunting, then followed up that breakthrough ...

A Love Letter to Derry Girls, the Show That Reminds Us Why Life’s Worth Living

Deep in the endless scroll of Netflix’s catalog, there exists a tiny little show called Derry Girls. It felt like something of an outlier when I discovered it in the fall of 2019 — just two seasons of six, twenty-minute episodes each — but I pressed play out of sheer curiosity. You know, the kind of curiosity that hits you when you’ve run out of anything to watch and decide on a whim to start something entirely new and entirely original. Set in the town of Londonderry, Northern Ireland, Derry Girls debuted in 2018 and tells the story of a group of teenagers coming of age in the 1990s. And yet it almost feels disrespectful to parse this lovely, little show down to a simple logline. Because at its heart, it’s so much more than that. I fell in love with the world of Derry Girls almost instant...

Dan Harmon: “I Don’t Even Know if It’s Legal” for Chevy Chase to Appear in Community Movie [Updated]

Dan Harmon was asked if Chevy Chase would return for the recently-announced Community movie coming to Peacock, and the series creator joked, “I don’t even know if it’s legal for him to come back. “That may be out of my hands,” he continued. “Maybe something I sign for with an insurance company, I really don’t know.” On a more serious note, he said, “Everyone wants to know, is so-and-so coming back? I cant really speak to that.” Harmon and Chase famously disagreed about the direction of the latter’s character Pierce, and Chase used the N-word during at least one heated exchange. Donald Glover, who also starred on the show, has spoken about his many racist interactions with Chase, including being told, “People think you’re funnier because you’re Black.” Advertisement Related V...

Ozuna on His New Album OZUTOCHI and Official FIFA World Cup Soundtrack Song: “I Said, ‘Yo! Let’s Go!’”

Ozuna worked on a lot of songs for his new album, Ozutochi, out today (Friday, October 7th). “I took two years to prepare,” Ozuna tells Consequence, “And I had 75, 65 songs. I get only 18 songs for this album… so it was difficult.” But fret not: the 18 songs he did select for Ozutochi show the Latin superstar at his very best. His signature tenor and stylish deliveries are on full display, and whether he’s starting the party or crooning through love songs, his unshakeable star power looms large. It’s been a significant rise throughout the last five years for the Puerto Rican-born singer, songwriter, and rapper — if you aren’t as familiar with Ozuna’s signature voice, you may have heard his remix to “Te Boté,” a reggaeton smash that reached massive levels of po...
