Woody Allen says his next film will most likely be his final directorial effort. Faced with renewed public scrutiny and backlash over the long-standing allegations that he sexually assaulted his daughter Dylan Farrow, the 86-year-old filmmaker has largely been blackballed from Hollywood in recent years. He has continued to make films, including 2019’s A Rainy Day in New York and 2020’s Rifkin Festival, but their distribution has been limited to Europe, with only a handful of US screenings. The same will likely be the case for Allen’s upcoming feature, Wasp 22, which is set to begin filming in France this fall. In an interview with La Vanguardia in anticipation of production, Allen said he intends for Wasp 22 to be the last film he directs. “My idea, in principle, is not to make more movies...
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Season 1 Episode 2, “The Great Wave.”] Because of the huge amounts of secrecy surrounding The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power throughout its production, star Cynthia Addai-Robinson tells Consequence she didn’t know what role, specifically, she was auditioning for during a “very long and up-and-down process, to eventually get to be a part of this amazing series.” But once she knew a little more about Queen Regent Míriel, and the character’s place in the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy universe, “I was very, very excited to get the opportunity to play a character that has a really interesting backstory,” she says. “It was also a chance to do something I felt like I never really done bef...
Keanu Reeves is set to return for Constantine 2, a sequel to the 2005 superhero film, from director Francis Lawrence. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Lawrence is also returning for the sequel, while Akiva Goldsman will serve pen the script. The first Constantine film was written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello. Based on DC’s Hellblazer comic, Constantine centers Reeves as John Constantine, an exorcist who travels between Earth and Hell in his communications with half-angels and half-demons. Really, his character is more of an anti-hero than a superhero, as he’s pretty cynical about his abilities. Advertisement Related Video The release of Constantine 2 is another sign of Warner Bros. Discovery’s newfound preference for superhero films over ...
Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered and dismembered 17 boys and men. Ryan Murphy will bring the unbelievable story to the small screen in his upcoming Netflix true crime show Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and today, you can see American Horror Story veteran Evan Peters embody the Milwaukee Monster himself. The 10-episode limited series premieres September 21st. The trailer opens with Peters’ Dahmer heading to his apartment with an unsuspecting young man. “What is that smell?” the guest asks — we have a few guesses — before his sinister host locks the door and the scene fades to black. As the trailer progresses, we see increasingly disturbing vignettes of Dahmer’s gruesome habits, hinting at the cannibalism and necrophilia that made his murders a...
Mammoth WVH’s 2021 self-titled debut album is receiving a digital deluxe edition on November 11th with three additional songs, including the Japanese-only bonus track “Talk & Walk” that is now streaming. Considering Wolfgang Van Halen spent many years self-recording the album, it makes sense that there’s a few worthy additional tracks. “Talk & Walk” is a particularly fun tune, shifting from twinkly arpeggios to grungy ’90s power-pop that harkens back to early Foo Fighters. According to the press release, the song was occasionally played during Mammoth WVH’s 2021 tour and became an immediate fan favorite. While “Talk & Walk” was previously released on the Japanese version of the album, the other two additional songs on the deluxe edition (“As Long As You’re Not You” and “Goodbye...
Alt rock duo The Driver Era, consisting of brothers Rocky and Ross Lynch, are back with their third studio album. Summer Mixtape, available Friday, September 16th, is a dreamy 11-track effort that ensures summer vibes won’t be going away any time soon. The entire record was written, produced, and mixed by the two brothers, and the result is a pleasantly hazy, indulgent, and sun-soaked listen. From the opener “Malibu” to disco-infused “Keep Moving Forward,” which enlists vocalist Nikka Costa, the album gives Rocky and Ross space to experiment and play. In celebration of Summer Mixtape, they’ll be hitting the road for a globe-trotting tour that will take them across Europe, Australia, and Asia this fall; tickets are available via Ticketmaster. “I feel like we’ve grown more this year than any...
The Pitch: Irwin M. “Fletch” Fletcher (Jon Hamm), an investigative journalist of some repute, arrives in Boston to help his lady friend Angela (Lorenza Izzo) retrieve some of her father’s paintings from an eccentric art dealer (Kyle McLachlan). But before he can unpack his bags, he finds a dead body in the apartment he’s borrowing. Pegged by two homicide detectives (Roy Wood Jr. and Ayden Mayeri) as the primary suspect, Fletch has to clear his name, secure the missing artwork, and fend off the advances of Angela’s stepmother (Marcia Gay Harden). Cards on the Table Time: Since he broke into the global consciousness through his still-outstanding work as morally bankrupt ad man Don Draper in AMC’s Mad Men, Jon Hamm has seemed content to serve as a utility player: For the better part of 15 yea...
Marcus Mumford of Mumford and Sons has released his first solo LP, (self-titled), via Capitol Records. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. (self-titled) was recorded in Los Angeles throughout 2021 after Mumford and the band “agreed it was probably a story I had to tell on my own.” The album was produced by Blake Mills and features collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Brandi Carlile, Clairo, and Monica Martin as well as co-writes with Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold, Julia Michaels, and Tobias Jesso Jr. “It’s a record about freedom and it’s a record about healing,” Mumford shared in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. “I think, certainly in my story, it’s important to face up to some of the gnarlier stuff first in order to get to that place of freedom and healing. In the way ...

The Pitch: The new David Bowie documentary, Moonage Daydream, succeeds not only for what it is, but what it isn’t. That has a lot to do with the clichés — and, occasionally, limitations — of the well-trodden format of the music documentary. We know bad ones — or just boilerplate ones — when we see them. They typically open in medias res; the subject mumbles something backstage through celluloid grain and a plume of smoke. Here come the talking heads: Jakob Dylan, Dave Grohl, Bono. The director takes us from the cradle to the grave — and you’re left a few bucks poorer, wondering if this is all music is, in the end. But never fear: Brett Morgen is at the wheel of Moonage Daydream, the new documentary plumbing the depths of Bowie. You may remember Morgen because he directed Kurt Cobain: Monta...
As he has many times before, Drake took the bait on Thursday (September 15th) after YouTube critic Anthony Fantano trolled the rapper with a video claiming Drake had DMed him a vegan cookie recipe. Not long after the video was posted, Drake responded by sharing the threatening DMs he had actually sent Fantano, who is known for running the music review channel The Needle Drop. “Anthony! It’s Drizzy,” the fake messages began. “I know we don’t really see eye-to-eye about music and that you are not the biggest fan of most of my albums (thanks for the kind words on Take Care and If You’re Reading This tho). But it is what it is, you know. Can always hope you’ll like the next one!” The DMs continued, “But I’m not messaging you about your videos. I’m actually messaging you cause I found a really ...
Magic Mike’s Last Dance will hip-thrust its way into theaters after all. Warner Bros. has set the threequel’s release date for February 10th, 2023, Deadline reports. Originally set as an HBO Max exclusive, the Steven Soderbergh-directed film will now have a window between its theatrical release and debut on the streamer, with availability on video on demand in between. The change falls in line with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav’s business philosophy that movies should be released in theaters first rather than premiering on streaming. Advertisement Related Video Channing Tatum, who will return in the title role, described the film as “a reverse-role Pretty Woman“ in a March interview with The New York Times. “We’re kind of swinging for the fences — there never needs to be ano...
