Rina Sawayama Unveils New Album Hold the Girl: Stream
Rina Sawayama has released her sophomore studio album. Hold the Girl, the pop artist’s long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s SAWAYAMA, is out now via Dirty Hit. Like SAWAYAMA, Hold the Girl is an amalgam of genres spanning grunge, country, EDM, and more, tied together with the Japanese-British artist’s keen ear for pop. The record comprises 13 tracks, a few of which Sawayama shared as singles: The belt-worthy title track, the rock-tinged “Catch Me in the Air,” the power ballad “Phantom,” and the rodeo banger “This Hell” — the latter of which we crowned Song of the Week. The Von Erich family is set to be immortalized in a new film from A24 called The Iron Claw, where Jeremy Allen White, Zac Efron, and Harris Dickinson will play three members of the wrestling clan. White has been cast as Kerry Von Erich, Efron as Kevin, and Dickinson as David. The film is written and directed by Sean Durkin and produced by Tessa Ross, Derrin Schlesinger, Harrison Huffman, and Angus Lamont. Sublime Are Getting a Biopic
Sublime are coming to a screen near you. A biopic about the reggae-rock crew is currently in the works, with the band’s own Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson executive producing. The as-yet-untitled film will document Sublime’s ascent from Long Beach misfits to household names, who didn’t achieve their first hit until after the tragic death of founding vocalist Bradley Nowell. Now, songs like “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and “Doin’ Time” are alt-rock radio staples, but there’s a lot more left to be told about the band behind them. Bruce Springsteen Announces Nebraska 40th Anniversary Vinyl Reissue
Bruce Springsteen is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his sixth studio album, Nebraska, with a special vinyl reissue. Originally released on September 30th, 1982, Nebraska is Vinyl Me, Please’s Essentials Record of the Month for October 2022. The reissue was pressed on exclusive Black Smoke vinyl, with an art print by Justin A. McHugh. It was half-speed mastered by renowned recording engineer Barry Grint (Madonna, Sean Combs, The Beatles). The listening notes booklet was penned by journalist Peter Ames Carlin, author of the Bruce Springsteen biography Bruce. One of the primary visual inspirations for Mura Masa‘s album demon time was none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. “There was an image of Sonic the Hedgehog that I had remembered seeing years ago and I was like, ‘That seems like a cool pose,’” says the songwriter and producer born Alex Crossan. “He’s got this circular look, his shoes are kind of bending around… it became a muse of mine.” The image was so influential for Crossan that he recreated it for demon time‘s album cover — but beyond the contorted, warped aesthetic, Crossan was drawn to the “joyfulness” he’s projecting, the frenetic ecstasy that Sonic embodies.
