After a wild summer of playing sold out stadiums in the US and beyond, Red Hot Chili Peppers returned to New York City to play one of the smallest-capacity shows of their tour on Tuesday night (September 13th). Although The Apollo Theater doesn’t have the size of, say, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, it certainly has the history. “I’m standing where Duke Ellington stood,” said Flea early on in the show, making sure the band paid their respects to one of the most legendary performance venues in the country. Luckily, Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely know how to bring their best to a legendary location like The Apollo. It wasn’t just the venue that made this performance special; the show was set to be recorded and broadcast on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ exclusive SiriusXM channel, Whole Lotta ...
The People’s Joker, an unauthorized queer coming-of-age movie set in the Batman universe, has been pulled from Toronto International Film Festival after a single screening “due to rights issues.” Helmed by and starring Los Angeles-based director Vera Drew, the film was scheduled for three more showings at TIFF following its premiere as part of the festival’s Midnight Madness programming on Tuesday, September 13th. Billed in the description of its trailer as “completely unlicensed by DC and Warner Bros.,” The People’s Joker was likely trying to operate under US fair use laws for parody. According to IndieWire, however, Warner Bros. Discovery informed the filmmaker of “a copyright issue” over the movie’s use of characters including Joker and “a Harlequin a la DC’s Harley Quinn...

The day could have been a disaster when heavy rain and lightning forced the event to end early and triggered an evacuation from Coolidge Park in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thankfully, the organizers were able to pivot and offer attendees an amazing indoor concert at a nearby venue at the last minute. This is a great festival success story in light of weather-related incidents from the past few years, and a situation...
David Harbour is taking a vacation from the Upside Down to join the cast of Gran Turismo, the Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions feature centered around the best-selling racing video game. Directed by sci-fi filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, best known for projects like District 9 and Elysium, the movie also pulls from a true story about a skilled teenage Gran Turismo player who would go on to become an actual professional race car driver. “As one of PlayStation’s longest standing and most beloved franchises, it’s great to be partnering with Columbia Pictures again to bring Gran Turismo to life in an exci...

Baltimore prosecutors have filed a motion to vacate the murder conviction of Adnan Syed, the subject of the trailblazing podcast Serial and a four-part HBO docuseries. It follows a nearly year-long reinvestigation into the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee conducted with the defense, which has uncovered new evidence (via The Wall Street Journal). Though the prosecutors aren’t stating Syed’s innocence, they are requesting a new trial and recommending he be released on his own recognizance while the investigation continues. Thus far, prosecutors have found new information suggesting the involvement of two more suspects. “The State no longer has confidence in the integrity of the conviction,” said Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. She continued, “After reviewing the evidence and the new...
Before Whitmer Thomas shares his new album The Older I Get the Funnier I Was this October, the comedian-musician has shared another preview today with the single and its accompanying music video. Sonically, “Everything that Feels Good Is Bad” is on the mellower side for Thomas, layering gentle acoustics over an electronic beat before the song swells into a rush of placid dream-pop. The song tackles the habit of gluttonous self-destruction in all its forms, effortlessly weaving the morose with the mundane: “Is it intermittent fasting or an eating disorder?/ Do I need all my old birthday cards or am I a hoarder?” he sings. “This song is about all of the unhealthy things I know I’m not supposed to do that I get some satisfaction out of doing in the moment,” Thomas explains in a press rel...
