Sam Fender Cancels Remaining US Tour Dates to “Look After” Mental Health

English singer-songwriter Sam Fender has canceled his remaining 2022 US tour dates to take care of his mental health. This includes a trio of headlining shows, gigs in support of Florence + the Machine, and an appearance at Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful. “It seems completely hypocritical of me to advocate discussion on mental health and write songs about it if I don’t take the time to look after my own mental health,” Fender wrote in a statement posted to social media. “I’ve neglected myself for over a year now and haven’t dealt with things that have deeply affected me. It’s impossible to do this work on myself while on the road, and it’s exhausting feigning happiness and wellness for the sake of business. My friends and colleagues have been worried about me for a while and it’s not going t...

Nick Cave Discusses Grieving Two Sons in In-Depth Interview: “The Audience Saved Me”

Back in May, Nick Cave’s oldest son, Jethro Lazenby, died at the age of 31 — a tragedy made all the more agonizing by the fact that another of Cave’s sons, Arthur, died only seven years earlier at 15. Naturally, music has long been an outlet of grief for the musician, and he chatted about his experience grieving loved ones and how his fans lured him out of the trenches in a new profile with the New York Times. The interview arrives just ahead of the September 20th release of Faith, Hope and Carnage, a book comprising interviews between Cave and journalist Seán O’Hagan. Sadly, Jethro died shortly after the interviews were completed, but Cave discusses his feelings towards Arthur’s death at length:  “I think grieving people are conscious of the sell-by date of their own misery,” Ca...

Brendan Fraser Calls Batgirl Cancellation “The Canary in the Coal Mine”

Brendan Fraser is basking in a career renaissance led by his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, but his turn as the villain Firefly in Batgirl sadly won’t be part of his comeback after Warner Bros. Discovery canceled the project for tax write-down purposes. In an interview with Variety, the actor called the decision “disappointing” while commenting on how it serves as an early warning sign that the film industry is in big trouble. “It’s disappointing. The fans really wanted to see this film made,” Fraser said. “The movie itself was shot and conceived for a smaller screen. In this age that we’ve come out of now between streaming service versus theatrical release, it wound up being the canary in the coal mine. So, what can we learn from this? Work with trusted filmmakers,...

Hardcore Show Takes Over Sonic Drive-Thru in New Jersey: Watch

“Hi, we’ll have a SuperSONIC double cheeseburger combo, a jumbo popcorn chicken, a cherry burst slush … and, oh, what the hell, throw in a killer hardcore show while you’re at it!!” That’s right, a hardcore concert featuring the bands Gel, Scowl, Exhibition, Chemical Fix, and Phantom took place at a Sonic drive-thru in New Jersey on Saturday night (September 10th). Perhaps inspired by a raucous hardcore show that took place at a Denny’s in Santa Ana, California, three years ago, the aforementioned bands descended upon the drive-thru of fast-food chain Sonic’s location in Hainesport, New Jersey. Hardcore videographer hate5six captured all the action, as did fans in attendance at the show. One look at the footage, and it’s easy to see that the mosh pits were in full force at the gig, with a ...

2022 Emmy Award Winners: Who Will Win Big This Year? [Updating Live]

The 2022 Emmy Awards represent, in some ways, a wild range of diversity in terms of the people and projects being nominated. A Korean language dystopian thriller nominated for Best Drama Series? An honest-to-god broadcast comedy about schoolteachers, created by its Black star, not just nominated but arguably a frontrunner in several categories? Jennifer Coolidge on the verge of getting an actual dang Emmy? Pretty exciting times. Of course, there’s every chance that the ultimate winners on Monday evening could hew closer to the TV Academy’s long-standing tradition of honoring more familiar shows, as already witnessed by 2020 drama winner Succession being the nominations count leader. But the potential for chaos is real this year, whether it be the possibility of Ted Lasso repeating last yea...

Chevalier Shines an Elementary Light on a Nearly Forgotten Master: TIFF Review

This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The Pitch: You have heard of Mozart, Beethoven, and countless other European composers that helped shape music as we know it. However, it’s likely that you have never heard of Joseph Bologne, known professionally as Chevalier de Saint-Georges, whose work was largely destroyed when slavery was reinstated throughout France in 1802. It is an absolute shame, but thankfully, what has been preserved has been rediscovered over the years, establishing him as the first Black composer of the classical eras. Now, his story, or at least some of it, has been adapted for the screen thanks to director Stephen Williams and screenwriter Stefani Robinson. Chevalier shows Bologne, played by Luce breakout Kelvin Harrison Jr.,...

The Fabelmans Sees Steven Spielberg Turn The Camera On Himself: TIFF Review

This review is part of our coverage of the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The Pitch: If you are familiar with Steven Spielberg beyond his movies, you likely know that he had a bit of an unconventional upbringing. His mother was an eccentric character, while his father seemingly loved her unconditionally as they moved around the country. However, that came to a halt when they suddenly announced their divorce when he was a senior in high school. It was this critical event, and the infidelity that Related Video fueled it, that helped shape the themes of Spielberg’s movies for the rest of his career. This influence is especially apparent in his latest film, The Fabelmans. Swapping out the Spielberg name with that of the titular family, this film is nonetheless his most personal to d...

The 100 Greatest Albums of All Time

It’s Consequence’s 15th anniversary, and all September long we’ll be publishing a series of retrospective pieces encompassing our publication’s own history — and the entertainment landscape in general. Today, we’re kicking it off with our new and improved 100 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Oh my God, we’re back again. It’s been over a decade since we first took a shot at boiling down all of popular music history into the 100 greatest albums of all time. Forget about how opinions have changed over those 12 years — the entire culture has shifted. Even the people taking part in this exercise are different, as only two staff members who were part of the OG list, published in 2010, remain with Consequence today. Understandably, things are going to be different this time. Tastes have bee...
