Queen’s 10 Best Deep Cuts

This article was originally published in 2018, but we’re dusting it off for Freddie Mercury’s birthday on September 5th. Deep Cuts is a feature in which we look past the hits and dig into the buried gems of our favorite back catalogs. Queen’s discography doesn’t just cast an imposing shadow; it hovers over the musical zeitgeist of multiple decades and several movements within rock and pop music. We all know the hits — the infectious ditties and creative permutations that did as much to define rock as they did to inspire — but it’s safe to say there are plenty of songs within the band’s discography that still aren’t getting the attention they deserve. Brandi Carlile Announces In These Silent Days Acoustic Re-Release In the Canyon Haze

Just in time for its first anniversary, Brandi Carlile is giving her most recent album In These Silent Days an update: The folk singer will re-record an acoustic version of the album song-by-song, titled In the Canyon Haze. Before it’s out on September 28th, Carlile has offered a preview with the new version of “You and Me on the Rock.” The idea for In the Canyon Haze came about when Carlile was pondering a deluxe edition of Silent Days. Rather than tacking on a few bonus tracks, she figured: Why not make the entire album a bonus? The album keeps the original’s tracklist with the exception of a cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” As for the new album’s title, Carlile cites the rootsy, bohemian spirit of the Laurel Canyon music scene. Pre-orders are ongoing....

It should be enough to get fans fired up for the upcoming tour, as the crowd is in full mosh form for the duration of “Compulsion for Cruelty.” Advertisement Related Video The North American outing will see Dying Fetus playing their own he...

The track is built off a woozy beat, psychedelic instrumentals, and sample of soulful background singers. There’s also a video accompanying the song, which appears to compile footage of the rappers out on the road. There’s even some clips of Rocky in a limousine with, of all people, Beck — perhaps the Red Hot Chili Peppers introduced them? We’ll keep you posted for...
