The National Remix NEU!’s “Im Glück” for NEU! 50! Box Set: Stream

This September, Krautrock pioneers NEU! are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their self-titled debut album with the NEU! 50! box set, which includes a tribute album comprising covers and remixes by an impressive list of artist. One of those names is The National, who have today shared their remix of NEU!’s “Im Glück.” The original version of “Im Glück” appeared on NEU! in 1972, and it’s a nearly-seven-minute drone track that doesn’t share much in common with The National’s typical indie rock. It’s pretty structureless with no rhythm section, almost acting like an intermission on the album. With The National’s touch, however, it becomes a bit of a dance number; the band add a shuffling house beat and layer it with more instrumentals, turning it into a much more active, melodic ...

Fugees Canceled Tour as Pras Michel Faced Jail for Malaysian Money Laundering Scheme: Report

In 2021, Fugees announced a reunion tour that they canceled four months later, with the group citing safety concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, a report from Puck.News suggests that the real reason had to do with member Pras Michel’s indictment in the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, which the US Department of Justice has called the “largest kleptocracy case to date.” Michel faces long-term imprisonment for his work with Jho Low, the fugitive businessman who has been accused of moving $4.5 billion from 1MDB into his personal accounts. Michel allegedly worked on his behalf, intentionally failing to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, and attempting to influence two different presidential administrations — by pouring in millions of dollars ...

Unsurprisingly, then, Johnson is poised to follow it up with a sequel. In fact, Netflix shelled out a cool $450 million to ensure he’d make two. Ahead of Knives Out 2‘s release, we’ve rounded up everything we know about the forthcoming sequel. What Is Knives Out, Again? The first Knives Out film starred Daniel Craig as Benoit Blanc, a detective investigating the death of the patriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family. Acclaimed Anvil Documentary to Receive Theatrical Re-Release

Anvil! The Story of Anvil, the 2009 documentary following the cult Canadian heavy metal band Anvil, is receiving a theatrical re-release this fall and will also be hitting digital streaming services later this year. Directed by Sacha Gervasi, the acclaimed documentary shed light on one of the hardest-working metal bands that never made it during the 1980s. Formed by singer/guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner, the band has trudged forward for decades despite a lack of commercial success, as earnestly depicted in the film. In fact, it was the documentary itself that gave Anvil their biggest career boost to date. Featuring interviews from Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Lemmy Kilmister, Slash, and more, the film put Anvil on the radar of metalheads who were perhaps previously unawa...

Gang of Youths Cancel North American Tour Due to “Ongoing Health Issues”

Gang of Youths have canceled the upcoming North American leg of their world tour due to lead singer Dave Le’aupepe’s “ongoing health issues.” The Australian rockers were set to kick off the trek September 13th in Milwaukee, zig-zagging across the US and Canada and ending with an appearance at Ohana Festival before an October 1st concert in Las Vegas. However, Le’aupepe suggests that health concerns are sapping his ability to perform. “In the words of warren zevon, my shit’s fucked up,” he wrote in a social media statement. “I need to take some time off to address these concerns before we pick back up again. i’m so sorry to everybody who is disappointed by this. a lot of the inner shit i feel has a lot to do with letting people down and i’m feeling that more than ever at this poin...

Johnny Depp Once Gave Kate Moss Diamonds by Pulling Them Out of His Butt

Johnny Depp gifted Kate Moss her first set of diamonds by pulling them out of his butt. Moss looked back on the memory in a new interview with British Vogue, where she explained the origins of some of her most famous fashion looks. In one such outfit Moss paired a white John Galliano dress with a diamond necklace that Depp pulled out of “the crack of his arse.” “We were going out for dinner and he said, ‘I’ve got something in my bum, can you have a look?’ And I went, ‘What?’ And I put my hand down his trousers and I pulled out a diamond necklace,” Moss said. “That diamond necklace.” Watch the model recount the strange experience below. Shia LaBeouf Cast in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis

There’s already a lot of big names attached to Megalopolis, the upcoming epic feature from Francis Ford Coppola. Now, it’s been confirmed that the embattled Shia LaBeouf has joined the film’s cast. LaBeouf has remained in hot water for the better part of the past two years now. Back in February 2021, he announced he’d be taking a hiatus from acting following accusations of abuse and assault by a number of women — including his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs, who filed a lawsuit against the actor in 2020 citing “relentless abuse.” He made headlines again last week after Variety published an interview with Olivia Wilde, who suggested that LaBeouf was fired from the role that eventually went to Harry Styles in her upcoming movie Don’t Worry Darling. LaBeouf maintains that he...

Harry Styles and Kate Bush Named Spotify’s Songs of Summer 2022

With Labor Day just around the corner, Spotify has released its Top Songs of Summer 2022 report. To no one’s surprise, it is led by a pair of Brits: Harry Styles and Kate Bush. Globally, the most-streamed song between May 29th and August 29th was Styles’ worldwide smash “As It Was.” Despite spending more than 10 weeks at No. 1 in both the US and UK, however, the Harry’s House cut was no match for the resurgence of Bush’s 37-year-old single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” in those countries. Thanks to its prominent placement in Season 4 of Stranger Things, “Running Up That Hill” was the most-streamed song on Spotify in the US and the UK, beating out “As It Was” by one spot in both instances. According to the report, first-time streams from Gen Z listeners in the US increased by 7,8...

Wu-Tang Clan and Nas Bring it Back to Hip-Hop’s Golden Age at Tour Kickoff in St. Louis: Review and Setlist

East Coast hip-hop royalty descended upon the Midwest as Wu-Tang Clan and Nas kicked off their “NY State of Mind Tour” (grab tickets here) at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis on Tuesday night (August 30th). The house was packed; lawn tickets were being sold for the same price as a 25-ounce Bud Light at the concession stand, and the strategy paid off. If it wasn’t sold out, the turnout had to have been close to the venue’s 20,000 capacity. Given that the tour’s namesake is derived from Nas’ legendary Illmatic track, nostalgia was the evening’s leitmotif. The night would lean heavily on material from Nas and Wu-Tang’s classic albums, with both making frequent references to hip-hop’s golden age and those who were there to live it. “Who here had a hip-hop album on cassette tape?”...
