Many musicians are jumping at the chance to bring their pandemic-crafted albums on tour, and CHVRCHES have done so defiantly. So, witnessing their performance at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York City on Wednesday (August 3rd) was not just an opportunity to see several Screen Violence cuts live, it was a chance to see CHVRCHES completely in their element, their show fine-tuned and riveting. More so than any of the band’s pre...

James Franco will portray Fidel Castro in an upcoming film called Alina of Cuba, Variety reports. The film centers on Alina Fernandez (Ana Villafañe), the illegitimate daughter Castro had with Cuban socialite Natalia Revuelta (Mía Maestro). Alina of Cuba follows Fernandez’s life as a critic of Castro’s regime. Fernandez, who is serving as an on-set creative and biographical consultant to the film, supported Franco’s casting as her father. The movie is directed by Miguel Bardem and written by Jose Rivera and Nilo Cruz, and is slated to begin filming in Colombia on August 15th. Behind-the-scenes footage of the film will be featured in a documentary directed by Thaddeus D. Matula entitled Revolution’s Daughter, which will also include interviews with the real-life Fernandez. The Pitch: What if amorphous concepts like Desire, Despair, and Death had anthropomorphic representations, and had realms over which they ruled? What if, amongst them, one of the most powerful was Dream (Tom Sturridge), who oversaw the land to which all living creatures come when their eyes slip shut and their minds take flight? That’s perhaps the simplest place to start when describing the premise for The Sandman, Netflix’s highly anticipated adaptation of the graphic novel series written by Neil Gaiman, with artists including Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel, Bryan Talbot, and Michael Zulli. Perhaps one of the most iconic examples of “sequential art” ever created, the ten-volume graphic novel series, despite many attempts over the decades by Hollywoo...
WILLOW has announced her forthcoming album <COPINGMECHANISM> and released a new single called “hover like a GODDESS.” The Hollywood progeny’s fifth studio will be released September 23rd as a follow-up to 2021’s lately I feel EVERYTHING. She initially previewed the album by sharing “<maybe> it’s my fault” as the lead sinle. In the Jaxon Whittington-helmed video for “hover like a GODDESS,” WILLOW is bathed in neon-tinged light as she sings, “When I walk, you fuckin’ hover like a goddess/ Just meet me under the covers, baby, I wish/ I’ve gotta be free, my army intends to please you/ Touches the vinyl, like you to say/ Yeah” over hard-charging electric guitars and drums. “Every woman deserves to be worshipped,” she added about the new single in a statement. “This song is an ode to...
After sharing a pair of comeback singles, The Mars Volta are finally ready to release their first proper album in 10 years. Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López have announced a new self-titled album, due out on September 16th via Cloud Hill. In anticipation, a new song called “Vigil” is out now. The Mars Volta released their most recent album Noctourniquet in 2012 before Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López went their separate ways. Earlier this year, the duo returned with the Caribbean-tinged “Blacklight Shine” and the plusing electronic number “Graveyard Love.” Both songs will appear on The Mars Volta, a 14-track LP which will be available on CD, vinyl, and cassette. Pre-orders are available now. On latest single “Vigil,” the El Paso band once again switches up their sou...
The Killers have officially released their new single “boy,” which they initially debuted during their headlining set at Madrid’s Mad Cool in July. Take a listen below. “boy” marks The Killers’ first new music since 2021’s Pressure Machine, but as lead singer Brandon Flowers explained in an interview with Consequence, the track actually originated from the sessions for that album. However, since it didn’t fit within their vision for the LP, they decided to stash it and debut it live at a festival instead. “We love an incline, we like a vertical. We accept all challenges,” Ronnie Vannucci Jr. added. “It’s an unusual place to maybe break open a new song, in front of maybe an entire crowd that isn’t entirely composed of Killers fan, so it kind of makes us work a little extra hard at it.”...
Carly Rae Jepsen has unveiled her latest single “Beach House” and its accompanying music video. Watch it below. Jepsen revealed the song’s inspiration in a TikTok ahead of its release, saying: “Caught a song idea a while back I’ve been wanting to share. It’s silly. It’s fun. I blame summer and my sister. And dating apps and the experiences so bad that they immediately have to turn funny or how else could we cope? Happy dancing and/or happy nightmares.” “Beach House” serves as the second preview of the singer’s upcoming sixth album, The Loneliest Time, which she announced earlier this week will be released October 21st. Lead single “Western Wind,” meanwhile, kicked off the new era at the beginning of May. Advertisement Related Video Back in June, the “Call Me Maybe” singer sat down for an i...
Even the uber-rich aren’t immune to the toll that political party lines can take on relationships: John Legend has admitted that his friendship with his formerly-frequent collaborator, Kanye West, dwindled largely due to the latter’s support of Donald Trump. The “All of Me” singer spoke about the fallout on a new episode of The Axe Files podcast: “[Kanye and I] aren’t friends as much as we used to be,” Legend told host David Axelrod. “I honestly think because we publicly disagreed on his running for office, his supporting Trump, I think it became too much for us to sustain our friendship, honestly.” Kanye and Legend go pretty far back: The former was one of the producers on Legend’s 2004 debut album Get Lifted, and even released the record on his own GOOD Music label. The pa...
Last year, Kevin Spacey was ordered to pay MRC, the producer of Netflix’s House of Cards, $31 million in compensatory damages following his termination from the show. He later petitioned to have the order reversed, but at an August 4th hearing, a judge determined the actor’s appeal had no standing. Spacey was fired from House of Cards in 2017 after eight employees of the show accused him of sexual misconduct. After his termination, MRC was forced to rewrite the show’s sixth and final season to exclude Spacey from the plot, and cut the season down from 13 episodes to eight in order to meet streaming deadlines. After an internal investigation and an evidentiary hearing, a neutral arbitrator concluded Spacey had violated the show’s anti-harassment policy and ordered him to...
