Michael Keaton Says He’s Never Seen a Full DC or Marvel Movie

You’d think most Hollywood actors would be diligent about watching the box office’s biggest films, but Michael Keaton is too busy to sit in front of a screen for two consecutive hours — or at least, that’s the excuse he gave in a new interview with Variety, wherein the man known for playing Batman admitted that he’s never seen a DC or Marvel movie from start to finish. About 30 years after starring as Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, Keaton will get back in the suit soon for The Flash. Though the Beetlejuice star expressed his admiration of Richard Donner for directing 1978’s Superman — thus igniting the superhero flick flame — he said that he’s really not one to watch movies like that. “I know people don’t believe this, that I’ve never seen an...

Comedy Pilot from Everything Everywhere All at Once Directors Greenlit at Showtime

The directing duo behind Everything Everywhere All at Once is coming to SHOWTIME. The network has greenlit a new half-hour comedy pilot from Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan — aka Daniels — called MASON, produced by A24. The series stars and is executive produced by Nathan Min, who’s guest starred on HBO’s Joe Pera Talks With You. MASON draws on some of Min’s real-life experiences. Per a press release: “MASON is a surrealist comedy about a quiet man named Nathan, often misheard as ‘Mason,’ seeking connection in a loud world.” The Daniels will also executive produce, as will Minari and Nope star Steven Yeun. “Nathan has brought SHOWTIME a disarmingly funny and emotional project that feels like a punch to the gut in how astutely it conveys the trials and tribulations...

Lollapalooza 2022: What You Missed on the Livestream

A little less than a mile separates Lollapalooza’s main headlining stage at the south end of Grant Park from the secondary headlining stage on the far north end. It’s a 15-minute walk on day one and a 20-minute waddle on day four — but a majestic waddle nonetheless, taking place as it does with a lake breeze on your face, in the shadow of the world’s prettiest skyline. Along the way you pass a corporate carnival ground of branded games, selfie stations, and quarter-mile-long booths where you can pay $7 for a single piece of chicken and buy an alcoholic beverage with a down payment of one kidney. The livestream captured the biggest names to play Lollapalooza 2022 but left out all the little things that make festivals great: The wild fashions; the travelers hoisting flags; the hustlers in no...

John Cale Remembers 1970s Manhattan with New Single “Night Crawling”: Stream

John Cale has returned with his first new music in almost two years. The former Velvet Underground member has today shared a funky new single called “Night Crawling” along with its accompanying music video. “Night Crawling” harks back to New York City’s budding pre-disco scene in the 1970s, and was largely inspired by Cale’s friendship with the king of cool himself, David Bowie. Cale performed much of the song’s instrumentals by himself, layering a mid-tempo stuttering beat over loungey bass and washes of synths. “There was this period around mid-late ’70s when David [Bowie] and I would run into each other in NY,” Cale writes in a statement. “There was plenty of talk about getting some work done but of course we’d end up running the streets, sometimes until we couldn’t keep a thought in ou...

Lollapalooza 2022: j-hope Kicks Off a New Era for BTS: Recap, Photos + Setlist

“I’m j-hope from BTS,” he told the Lollapalooza crowd, doing nothing more than introducing himself and nothing less than making history. BTS are perhaps the most overwhelming musical force the world has ever known, having conquered the globe with an ARMY bigger than Beatlemania. The septet became such an institution that when they announced a “hiatus,” to pursue solo projects, the resulting panic cost their management label HYBE $1.7 billion in market cap in just two days. “We are not disbanding,” the group clarified. j-hope said it in a different way under the banner of Chicago’s skyline in Grant Park Sunday night: “I’m j-hope from BTS.” Advertisement Related Video He’s a lot more than that. Westworld’s Daniel Wu on Episode 6’s Big Reveals and His Special Bond With Thandiwe Newton

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Westworld, Season 4 Episode 6, “Fidelity.”] Daniel Wu is no stranger to strange genre tales — the veteran actor has been working constantly over the past few decades on a mix of Hong Kong and American productions, notably starring in the bonkers AMC martial arts drama Into the Badlands for three seasons. Thus, he was more than ready to take on a significant role in Season 4 of Westworld, playing Jay, the leader of a group of human “outliers” who are scrambling for survival in a world now controlled by the robotic “hosts.” As Wu explains to Consequence via Zoom, there was no question of him turning down the job, when Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy asked him about it after the two of them worked together on her directorial debut, the 2021 fi...

Westworld Composer on Giving the Opening Title Music an “Edgy” Cover For Season 4, Episode 6: Exclusive

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Westworld, Season 4 Episode 6, “Fidelity.” To read about the music of Episode 5, click here.] Unlike past weeks, where Westworld composer Ramin Djawadi has surprised us with covers of Frank Ocean and Nine Inch Nails, Episode 6 of Season 4 contained no such surprises on the musical front. Except, of course, for the fact that he ended up covering… himself. First, though, “Fidelity” did contain some big surprises on a narrative level, though, including the end of the line for freedom fighter Jay (Daniel Wu) — the human version, at least. And we also got to see the full extent of Hale (Tessa Thompson)’s manipulation of Caleb (Aaron Paul), as he not only confronts his new reality as a host, but the fact that he has been copied dozens of times ...

Beyoncé: Renaissance

Over the last decade, every Beyoncé project has become an integral part of a larger Beyoncé Project. Though she hasn’t released a proper studio album since 2016’s sprawling visual statement Lemonade, she’s made a film (Black Is King), released a collaborative record with her husband Jay-Z (Everything Is Love), lent her voice to a Disney film (The Lion King), dropped a series of singles, and masterminded her sportswear line Ivy Park—all while making clear that she’s intensely focused on celebrating the long legacy of Black musicians and artists, of which she is a part and beacon. Her global reach is a reminder that Beyoncé, the billionaire pop icon, does not and could not exist in a vacuum. Recall 2019’s Homecoming, the live album and concert movie documenting her vaunted “Beychella” festiv...
