Garbage are nearing the end of their extensive 2022 tour, which saw them supporting Tears For Fears on their The Tipping Point trek, as well as another leg of dates supporting Alanis Morissette on her Jagged Little Pill 20th anniversary shows. But the ’90s rockers have definitely not run out of steam; if anything, they’re completely in their element. Their show this month at Festival d’été de Québec was a perfect example of what they do best — not only were the tracks from their most recent 2021 album No Gods No Masters represented with passion and poise, their laundry list of hits sprinkled in throughout the set was a great demonstration of their enduring legacy. As lead vocalist Shirley Manson mentions in her recent episode of Consequence‘s The Story Behind The Song podcast, th...

Boom! Big reveal! Rick and Morty will be returning for Season 6 on Sunday, September 4th. Details on the animated sci-fi comedy’s latest set are scant, but a statement from Adult Swim announcing the premiere promises “Piss! Family! Intrigue! A bunch of dinosaurs! More piss!” Though a new season of the Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon-created series comes as no surprise due to the show’s massive 70-episode deal in 2018, the timing of its arrival remained a mystery after the slightly longer gap than usual following the end of Season 5 in September 2021. With no visual accompaniment to the news, we can only hope that the minds at Adult Swim are preparing to top last year’s video game trailer and live-action, Christopher Lloyd-starring promo. Houston psych trio Khruangbin and Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré have announced their new collaborative album, Ali. The project is a tribute to Touré’s late father, Ali Farka Touré, and is due out on September 23rd via Dead Oceans. Ali will honor the desert blues pioneer with reinterpretations of highlights and B-sides from his catalog. Its release date has particular significance as well, occurring the day after Republic Day, a holiday commemorating the independence of the Republic of Mali from the Mali Federation on September 22nd, 1960. “I want this album to convey love. It is about the love that Ali brought into the world,” said Vieux Farka Touré in a statement. “It is about the love that I have for him and that Khruangbin has for his music. It is about pouring your love into somet...
David Lee Roth has released a new song with lyrics that pay tribute to his legendary band Van Halen. The track, “Nothing Could Have Stopped Us Back Then Anyway,” is the latest in a series of new songs the singer recorded with Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 several years back, but only began releasing in 2020. With the opening line, “We laughed, we cried, we threw the television off that balcony,” the song is an obvious ode to his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band. If it wasn’t clear enough, the still image that accompanies the YouTube audio is a vintage shot of Van Halen. Upon the song’s release on Wednesday (July 27th), John 5 wrote on Instagram, “I remember being in the studio with Dave cutting this track — it was magic, one of my fondest memories. I’ve loved Van Halen my whole life and tha...
It’s a reminder that Florist has always been a collaborative effort, a sensitive group of musicians all equally in tune with the small wonders and moments of connection and disruption Sprague evokes in the lyrics. In these songs, you can hear how their increased intimacy allowed them to locate subtle new textures that conjure these feelings—say, the layered horns in “Spring in Hours,” or the slide guitar in “Feathers.” Listening to the instrumental tracks, like the fingerpicked “Duet for Guitar and Rain,” you gain insight into how they may have landed on these sounds—momentary bursts of inspiration, collected like seashells on a beach. Of course, none of the instrumental tracks would be nearly as interesting if the more traditional songs weren’t among the strongest Sprague has written. Aft...
Apparently Beyoncé fans in Europe did not Bey-have, and so it came to pass that Renaissance, the forthcoming album from arguably the most talented pop star in history, has leaked two days early. Beyoncé’s seventh studio album is due to drop at midnight between Thursday, July 28th and Friday, July 29th. But already high quality FLAC files are not hard to find, if you don’t care about artist compensation and don’t mind potentially downloading some well-deserved viruses. Social media sleuths have traced the leak to Europe, possibly France, where posts seem to show that at least one record store put CDs of Renaissance on the shelf July 27th. “This Beyoncé album finna leak. They already got it at stores 2 days before release,” one person wrote. Advertisement Related Video Beyoncé...
Guys love to act tough until they hear “LOVE” by Kendrick Lamar. K-dot himself has responded to a TikTok that went viral over the weekend, in which a security guard on the job at the rapper’s Houston show can be seen openly crying to the DAMN. highlight. Jazlyn Guerra — a Brooklyn-based kid journalist who posts interviews to her Instagram @jazzysworldtv — spoke with Kendrick about the video a few days later at Rolling Loud. “At the end of the day, past all the politics, past all the numbers, [what’s most important is] what music makes you feel, you know?” Lamar told her. “To see that — and shoutout to him, by the way, because I see you, bro — I was like, ‘man, I wonder what he’s going through,’” the rapper went on. “At the end of the day, that’s how you want everyone to receive your music,...
“We tried In & Out Burger!” says Hueningkai, the youngest member of TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Seated next to his bandmates in a suite in downtown Los Angeles, he’s recounting some of his favorite memories from their time in California in late July. “And Panda Express,” he and Yeonjun add in sync. The American experience is in full swing. Assembled comfortably like this the day after a sold-out show at the Microsoft Theater — the last in a string of entirely sold-out stateside dates — there’s a bit of an air of relief among the band, relaxed in each other’s company. But, more than that, the members of the K-pop quintet seem grateful. “In the beginning, we had doubts about whether we could really do this,” Taehyun shares. “But it ended really well.” Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Hueni...
Sebastian Stan is at work in New York City filming the A24 drama A Different Man, and based on the first look photo he posted to Instagram on July 27th, the film’s name is no exaggeration. In A Different Man, Stan plays a man with neurofibromatosis who undergoes facial reconstructive surgery. Yet when a play is made based on his life, Stan’s character becomes obsessed with the actor who plays him. In the first look, Stan is completely transformed by prosthetics by Mike Marino, the artist responsible for turning Colin Farrell into the Penguin for The Batman and also worked on the Oscar-nominated Coming 2 America, The Irishman, and Joker. Check out Stan as a completely Different Man below. A Different Man is written and directed by Aaron Schimberg, while Stan is exec...
