Alice Merton Shares Origins of New Song “Loveback”: Exclusive

Our recurring new music series Origins is where artists can reveal the stories behind their latest release. Today, Mom + Pop artist Alice Merton shares “Loveback.” Alice Merton is today sharing the latest preview of her forthcoming S.I.D.E.S. LP with the single “Loveback.” “Loveback” serves as the opening salvo on the singer-songwriter’s sophomore full-length. It sets the stage for a powerful indie pop sound, one that’s full of fun, scream-along chorus, but also underscores the album’s prevalent themes of self-reclamation. I was never dependent on anyone or anything, even...

Christopher Walken Is the Emperor in Dune: Part Two

The casting process for Denis Villeneuve‘s next movie seems to be Dune just fine: Christopher Walken will lord over Part Two as the ruler of the universe himself, the Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, The Hollywood Reporter notes. The Emperor didn’t appear in the 2021 movie Dune, which covered the first half of Frank Herbert’s classic novel. But his actions were felt from the first moments, which picked up with his assigning Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) to the spice-rich desert planet Arrakis. Duke Leto brought his family along, including his son Paul (Timothée Chalamet). Joining Walken in Part Two will be Florence Pugh, who was already cast as the Emperor’s daughter Princess Irulan, and Austin Butler, who will portray the heir ...

Arcade Fire Perform Two Songs Promoting First Image of Milky Way’s Black Hole: Watch

Our galaxy the Milky Way spins around Sagittarius A*, a supermassive, space-time shredding black hole that weighs as much as 4.5 million suns. Today the Event Horizon Telescope team presented the first ever image of Sagittarius A*, and the black hole nerds of Arcade Fire were on hand to trumpet this landmark scientific achievement. Frontman Win Butler and his bandmate and wife Régine Chassagne have long been fascinated by these gravitational phenomena. On the cover of their new album WE, superimposed with a picture of an eye, Arcade Fire placed one of the most famous images in astronomy: a fluorescent orange donut surrounding a dark nothing. It was the first ever image of a black hole: a snapshot of the chonker at the heart of the M87 galaxy 55 million lightyears from Earth, pres...

Francis Ford Coppola has announced the cast for his long-gestating film Megalopolis, including Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, and more. The latter actor began his career with Coppola’s 1979 classic Apocalypse Now opposite Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, and Martin Sheen. Coppola is self-financing the film and per Deadline, the story is described as follows: “The fate of Rome haunts a modern world unable to solve its own social problems in this epic story of political ambition, genius, and conflicting interests.” Production on the film is set to begin later this fall....

Dune Rats Premiere Video for New Song “Melted Into Two”: Stream

Australia’s Dune Rats have unveiled a romantic video for their new song “Melted Into Two,” which is premiering exclusively via Heavy Consequence. The tune will appear on the band’s upcoming album, Real Rare Whale, arriving on July 29th. Fun is the name of the game for this punk trio, and “Melted Into Two” perfectly captures their upbeat vibe. The band’s sing-along power pop is driven by earnest vocals and big garage-rock chords in the vein of Ty Segall and Redd Kross. Considering Dune Rats propensity for tongue-in-cheek shenanigans, the video for “Melted Into Two” is actually quite adorable. It follows a real-life couple — Kell and Ellie — who’ve fallen in love. Firestarter Review: Zac Efron Stars In a Stephen King Remake That Quickly Flames Out

The Pitch: Stephen King adaptations have been a fixture of the big and small screens for decades, but there’s been a particular surge in recent years, following the blockbuster success of It. So it’s only natural that studios might circle back and revisit some of the adaptations that weren’t especially beloved in their day. Firestarter seems like a good candidate; the 1984 film version is more notable for its eclectic cast (including George C. Scott, Louise Fletcher, and a young Drew Barrymore!) than its meandering story (albeit one that’s largely faithful to the events of King’s book). The new Firestarter still follows Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), the pyrokinetic daughter of two telepathic parents, who goes on the run with her dad Andy (Zac Efron), pursued by the shadowy government for...

Surprise Norm Macdonald Stand-Up Special, Filmed Prior to His Death, Coming to Netflix

Fortunately for fans, the comedian committed his jokes to tape in a home-recorded video that the streaming platform will soon unearth for the first time. Macdonald was diagnosed with cancer in 2012, but kept his illness private from the public. According to Lori Jo Hoekstra, the comedian’s longtime friend and producing partner, he recorded his final special before heading into the hospital in 2020 as a precautionary measure. “His test results were not good, so during the heart of COVID-19 pandemic and literally the night before going in for a procedure, he wanted to get this on tape just in case — as he put it — things went south,”...
