Bono Announces New Memoir Surrender Breaking Down U2 Songs
Bono recently said he’s “embarrassed” by most of U2’s catalog, but apparently that didn’t stop him from writing a memoir structured around his band’s songs. Titled Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story, the book is out on November 1st via Knopf. As the title suggests, Surrender contains 40 chapters — each of which is named after a U2 song — as well as 40 original drawings created by Bono specifically for the memoir. In the book, he’ll also take readers through the journey of his upbringing in Dublin, the loss of his mother, and humanitarian work dedicated to the fight against AIDS and extreme poverty. “When I started to write this book, I was hoping to draw in detail what I’d previously only sketched in songs,” Bono said in a press release. “The people, places, and possibilities in my life. ...

John R. Cherry III, the director and screenwriter known for creating the character Ernest P. Worrell, died on May 8th. He was 73. The news was announced on the official Ernest P. Worrell Facebook page, citing a long battle with Parkinson’s disease as his cause of death: “Unfortunately, I have some devastating news to share with you all. Cave In have announced a Summer 2022 US tour with Author & Punisher, and have shared the video for their new song “Reckoning.” It’s the fourth track we’ve heard from the Cave In’s forthcoming album, Heavy Pendulum (out May 20th), and marks the Boston band’s first song written entirely by guitarist Adam McGrath. PETA has been lobbying Starbucks for cheaper plant-based milk options, and James Cromwell decided to lend them a hand. As part of a protest that took place today, March 10th, the Emmy-winning actor superglued his fingers to the counter of a Manhattan Starbucks. US-based Starbucks charge more for vegan milks than for dairy milks, though the products cost the same at stores in the UK and India. According to PETA, “Cow’s milk is Starbucks’ biggest contributor to its carbon footprint,” and the animal-rights group is agitating for Starbucks to make its vegan options as affordable as its dairy options. Clark is a new Netflix Swedish-language series based on infamous Swedish criminal Clark Olofsson. Directed by ex-Bathory drummer and Lords of Chaos director Jonas Åkerlund, the six-part series boasts a serious metal pedigree. To start, Åkerlund tapped Opeth mastermind Mikael Åkerfeldt to compose the score for the series. Åkerfeldt recently announced a physical release of the 34-track soundtrack, which spans genres and features four vocal performances from the Opeth frontman. Young Thug was arrested on gang activity and racketeering charges in Atlanta on Monday. According to the New York Times, Young Thug was charged with one count each of participation in street gang activity and conspiracy to violate the RICO Act as part of a 56-count indictment filed against the rapper and 27 of his associates. YSL (short for Young Slime Life) is the name of Young Thug’s record label. However, in its indictment the Fulton County District Attorney alleges that the Atlanta-based YSL also engages in criminal gang activities, including murder and armed robbery.
