Dave Grohl Discusses His Hearing Loss: “I’ve Been Reading Lips for 20 Years”

All those years playing in Foo Fighters and Nirvana have caught up with Dave Grohl. During his recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show, the 53-year-old rock veteran discussed his hearing loss and how it affects his life both on and off the stage. “If you were sitting next to me right here at dinner, I wouldn’t understand a fucking word you were saying to me the whole fucking time,” Grohl said, motioning about a foot away from his left ear. “There’s no way. In a crowded restaurant — that’s the worst.” Up until mask-wearing became the norm, however, Grohl’s hearing loss didn’t pose too much of an issue in his day-to-day life. He insisted it’s “not that bad,” but now that mask-wearing is the norm, Grohl has had a harder time conversing in public. Advertisement Related Video “The ...

25 Years Later, David Lynch’s Lost Highway Remains an Underappreciated and Nightmarish Neo-Noir Gem

David Lynch is rightly considered among the most impenetrably bizarre and allegorical filmmakers of his generation; however, there’s always a resolutely singular sense of authorship and intention to his work (even if he’s literally the only person who knows what he’s trying to say). That’s as true of 1977’s pioneering Eraserhead and 1986’s revered Blue Velvet as it is 1999’s comparatively conventional The Straight Story and 2006’s maligned Inland Empire. It’s certainly also valid for what’s perhaps his most unjustly disparaged creation: 1997’s Lost Highway. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this week, Lost Highway arrived in the midst of a career slump for Lynch. Neither 1990’s Wild at Heart nor 1992’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me earned the same kind of accolades as his 1980s run of films...

Choppy, droning downstrokes buzz in the single’s feedback intro before Margolin begins chanting. “We cannot get better if we can’t talk about it,” she sin...

MYLES KENNEDY Explains How His Dog Inspired Lyrics For SLASH’s New Song ‘Fill My World’

SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS frontman Myles Kennedy spoke to Danny Stoakes about the lyrical inspiration for the track “Fill My World” from the band’s latest album, “4”. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Though it’s not a big rock song, it has a lot of meaning to me… It was inspired by my dog Mozart. He’s a Shih Tzu. He’s a little brat, but he’s essentially our kid [laughs], of my wife and I. And we were… I don’t know where we were, but we couldn’t get home one night. So we had those little camera things. And we were supposed to get home — or maybe she was supposed to get home, and something happened. So he was stuck in the house by himself. And there was a massive storm; we get these...

KORY CLARKE On How Jail Stint Inspired Title Of WARRIOR SOUL’s New Album, ‘Out On Bail’

WARRIOR SOUL frontman Kory Clarke spoke to Dawn Osborne of TotalRock about the inspiration for the title of the band’s upcoming album, “Out On Bail”. The LP will arrive on March 4 via Livewire/Cargo Records UK. Regarding the album’s title track, which was made available earlier in the month, Kory said: “It’s a song about a former bandmember, in another band, that was upset about something I said at his wedding which I didn’t wanna go to. But anyway, I said it to his mom. And I’d had a few. [Laughs] Anyway, he didn’t like it so much that he called me — he left a message on my machine saying, ‘You’re fired. I’m taking all your publishing. We’re gonna re-record the whole album with somebody else.’ And I got th...

He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “In the most point-blank way I can say it, this album was written for the people by the people. And there’s a lot to it. And I’m not even talking about just in this country when I say a statement like that. It’s the freedoms of the individual from a global standpoint. “We all know what we’ve been through in the last two years, entering year three of what is going on. But I think that the good thing is now people are starting to become more educated on things, they are starting to ask questions...

TED NUGENT Supports Canadian Trucker Convoy, Refers To JUSTIN TRUDEAU As ‘FIDEL JR.’

Ted Nugent has expressed his support for those involved in the Canadian trucker protests, saying they “stand up for the best of humanity.” A three-week protest in downtown Ottawa initially focused on Canada’s vaccine requirements for truckers entering the country but it morphed into a broader attack on COVID precautions and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau‘s government. As a result, Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act granting authorities broader powers to stop the demonstrations in Ottawa and blockades of several Canada-U.S. border crossings. Nugent weighed in on the trucker protests in a new interview with Eric Bolling, the host of Newsmax‘s “Eric Bolling The Balance”. The outspoken 73-year-old rocker said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): ̶...

Alan Rickman’s Top 10 Performances

Top Performances is a recurring feature in which we definitively handpick the very best performances from an iconic actor or actress. This article was originally published in 2006. He was the villain. Until he wasn’t. You can take this angle on the late Alan Rickman in two ways. The first is his film career, in which the actor set himself up to be a go-to heavy for years to come. His Hans Gruber in Die Hard was the perfect foil for Bruce Willis’ John McClaine — the former neat, succinct, calculating while the latter was a mess, foulmouthed, and always improvising. Then there was the scenery-chewing performance as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, a movie oft-maligned but not because of Rickman. Far from it. These evil performances were not an indication of what wo...
