Reese Witherspoon to Star in Election Sequel Tracy Flick Can’t Win

Reese Witherspoon is going back to high school to star in Tracy Flick Can’t Win, a sequel to 1999’s Election that will find the indomitable Flick as a stressed-out but still ambitious assistant principal. As Variety reports, the film is based on Tom Perrotta’s book of the same name, which he published earlier this year as a follow-up to his own novel, 1998’s Election. The new movie is set to debut on Paramount+, and will be directed by Election filmmaker Alexander Payne, who will co-write the script with Jim Taylor. Election proved that Witherspoon was a rising star and established Payne as an in-demand actor’s director, paving the way for such films as About Schmidt and Sideways. It followed the Type-A Tracy as she...

15 Times Aubrey Plaza Was Iconic

The tour de force that is Aubrey Plaza is as talented as they come. Her prowess as a comedian and actress has seen her work with some of the industry’s best. But the standout element of Plaza’s career has always stood out amongst everything else: her iconic awkwardness. No matter where she goes, Plaza always makes it interesting with her deadpan approach that always inspires a reaction. Whether it be putting up Blair Witch symbols in the dressing rooms of cast members from The White Lotus or making Robert De Niro uncomfortable, Plaza marches to the beat of her own drum. While some question if it’s a facade or Plaza is simply like this, the actress has produced plenty of stories and moments regardless. Here are 15 times Aubrey Plaza was iconic. — Joe Eckstein Her Time As an NBC Page no like...

Emo’s Not Dead Cruise Proves It Wasn’t Just a Phase: Recap, Photos and Video

With the onslaught of reunion tours and themed festivals that have popped up since the pandemic has simmered down (but let’s be honest, has it?), it only seemed right to throw in a scene fest amongst the jam bandy, stadium rock gatherings we’ve been seeing. There was When We Were Young, its own little toe dip into devotion of an era when Hot Topic was still kind of cool, but why see burned CD classics on land? How 2019 of us. Thankfully, scene king Matt Cutshall took his “emo’s not dead” bit to the shallow seas (we sail) with a freaking cruise… and it was awesome. The inaugural Emo’s Not Dead Cruise was a bit of curveball. Emos and water? Here’s where you’d insert a joke about turning the ocean black with our tears. Yet, something about it just… worked. From acoustic sets to bands playing ...

Disney+ Launches Ad-Supported Plan: What You Need to Know

Disney has dipped its toe into ad-supported streaming by launching the new Disney+ Basic plan. Initially only available in the US, the cheaper tier arrives roughly one month after rival streamer Netflix rolled out its own ad-supported subscription. It’s worth noting that Disney+ Basic launches with access to the platform’s entire catalog as opposed to Netflix’s ad-supported plan, which debuted without many popular TV shows and movies. However, the cheaper tier does come with some restrictions: It doesn’t allow downloads or come with extra features like GroupWatch and Dolby Atmos support. Along with Disney+ Basic, there is a reworked lineup of ad-supported Disney Bundles that come with Hulu, ESPN+, and/or live TV. Mike Flanagan Adapting Stephen King’s The Dark Tower Series

Mike Flanagan is adding yet another Stephen King adaptation to his repertoire: Deadline reports that the Doctor Sleep filmmaker is reuniting with his frequent collaborator, producer Trevor Macy, for a new adaptation of the horror novelist’s The Dark Tower series. Flanagan told Deadline that The Dark Tower — which amalgamates elements of classic horror, sci-fi, fantasy, and Western — has been his dream project for quite a while. He envisions the adaptation as a TV series to run for five seasons, followed by two standalone features; considering King has penned nine books in the franchise since 1982, the filmmakers have a lot of material to pull from. The Dark Tower has been brought to the screen twice before: Nikolaj Arcel directed a 2017 movie for Sony starring Idris Elb...

Goose Get in a Groove with “Dripfield” on Fallon: Watch

Goose landed at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, December 7th with a performance of the title track from their latest album, Dripfield. The quintet appeared relaxed and loose making their Tonight Show debut. The 30 Rock stage was dressed for the holidays, and after Goose added some well-saturated purple and blue jam band lighting, the set was more than merry and bright. Check out “Dripfield” below. The performance coincided with multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach’s birthday, which only added to the celebratory nature of their first Tonight Show appearance. It also capped a seismic year for the band, who released their third LP, Dripfield, as well as the 4-track Undecided EP, and also co-headlined a fall tour with Trey Anastasio Band.
