Anne Heche had traces of cocaine, cannabinoids, and benzodiazepines in her system at the time of her death, but there is no evidence that drugs were a contributing factor. The 53-year-old actress died on August 11th, six days after crashing her car into a Los Angeles home. According a final autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner (via E Online), cannabinoids were detected in Heche’s urine but not in her blood sample, which is “consistent with prior use but not at the time of injury.” The blood sample also showed presence of benzoylecgonine, an inactive metabolite of cocaine. Meanwhile, the fentanyl detected in her urine was “consistent with therapeutic use” by the hospital. Advertisement Related Video A toxicology report also found no ...

Whoopi Goldberg defended the 1974 satire Blazing Saddles on the December 7th episode of The View, pushing back against critics who claim it couldn’t be made in 2022. The conversation was sparked by Mindy Kaling’s recent appearance on Good Morning America, where she claimed that The Office is “so inappropriate now” and that most of the characters “would be canceled” today. Goldberg rejected the premise by citing Blazing Saddles, which might be more challenging for modern audiences. “Blazing Saddles, because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today,” she said. “There are a lot of comedies that are not good, okay? We’re just going to say that. That’s not one of them. Blazing Saddles is one of the greatest because it hits everybody.”...
Alex G paid the NPR office a visit recently for a Tiny Desk Concert. The Philly indie rocker was promoting his September record God Save the Animals, one of the Top 50 Albums of 2022. “We’re really grateful to be here,” Alex told the in-person audience after playing his first song of the set, “Runner,” and introducing his band. “I don’t have a lot to say,” he added with a chuckle, the sentiment coming off much more gracious than aloof. After “Runner” — which we also crowned one of the Top 50 Songs of 2022 — Alex G played another God Save the Animals single, “Miracles,” a gorgeous acoustic track that’s perfectly suited to the Tiny Desk’s stripped-down setting. He also dug up two older highlights from his expansive discography: “Gretel,” the sweetly twisted lead single from hi...

The Pitch: 2022 has really seemed like The Year of Pinocchio. While the original 1883 Italian novel by Carlo Collodi has had its fair share of adaptations over the years (from classic Disney delights to, well, Pauly Shore in middle-aged twink mode), this year saw new takes on the material from two of cinema’s most acclaimed directors. But where Robert Zemeckis’ retelling felt morbid and soulless, master of the macabre Guillermo del Toro returns to gift us with a version that hits the classic beats of the fable, while slotting it handily into the concerns and aesthetics the director has pursued his entire career. The lumber is the same, but the construction is quite different: Pinocchio (the cherubic Gregory Mann) is still the wooden boy whittled into existence by old carpenter Geppett...
