Last year, Mike Myers and Dana Carvey resurrected Wayne and Garth for a Wayne’s World-themed Super Bowl commercial. For this year’s Big Game, Myers has brought back another one of his beloved characters — Dr. Evil. Myers stars alongside fellow Austin Powers cast members Seth Green, Rob Lowe, and Mindy Sterling in a new commercial for General Motors. To be honest, the premise is pretty dumb: Dr. Evil has made GM headquarters his new evil lair, and intends to use the company’s “Ultium Platform” to power his whole operation… while reducing carbon emissions. “I will help save the world first, then take over the world,” declares Dr. Evil. Welcome to the Second Age. We’re finally in the same calendar year as the premiere of Amazon’s long-awaited Lord of the Rings series, The Rings of Power, and Vanity Fair has provided the first look at the characters rounding out the show, including Robert Aramayo’s Elrond, Joseph Mawle‘s Oren, Markella Kavenagh’s Tyra, Robert Aramayo’s Beldor, and Morfydd Clark‘s Galadriel. Check out some pictures below. Led by showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, The Rings of Power takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings films and “unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.” All of this is bas...
Foo Fighters have lots of respect for the great artists who have come before, whether that’s Bee Gees, Van Halen, or the Fraggles. That’s right, Dave Grohl and friends perform alongside their esteemed muppet peers in the new music video for “Fraggle Rock Rock.” The Foos unveiled the song last month to coincide with the debut of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock on Apple TV+. The video finds them sharing the stage — or trying to, at any rate, because some of these Fraggles aren’t very good at ceding the spotlight. Occasional tussle aside, everyone seems to be having fun, as you can see in the video below. Foo Fighters aren’t the only humans who will be venturing to Fraggle Rock. During the 13-episode run, Patti LaBelle performs “Shine on Us Now (Moon Come Soon),” ...
Morgan Wallen kicked off “The Dangerous Tour” on Wednesday evening, effectively marking the end of his brief cancelation following his use of the N-word on camera. The country singer performed before a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden, and by the sound of it, the concert wasn’t too dissimilar to a Trump rally. According to Rolling Stone, chants of “Let’s Go Brandon” (MAGA nation’s sophomoric euphemism for “Fuck Joe Biden”) broke out during the concert. Fox News *of course* has the exclusive footage. Rolling Stone also spoke to attendees of the concerts to inquire whether they were bothered by Wallen’s use of a racial slur. “It doesn’t matter. We love him,” responded one woman named Molly. Another woman named Erica added, “I love this man. I think he deserves the world.” Meanwhile, a...
Last month, Damon Albarn took heat for bluntly — and incorrectly — stating that Taylor Swift “doesn’t write her own songs.” Of course, Swift is one of the most accomplished songwriters of the last two decades, but the Gorillaz/Blur frontman attempted to reduce her to a “co-writer.” “That doesn’t count,” he said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. “I know what co-writing is. Co-writing is very different to writing.” There was some back and forth on Twitter, with Swift calling Albarn’s “hot take… completely false and SO damaging,” and Albarn eventually issuing a direct apology. Still, the words were said, and many Swifties are still standing up for the musician. That includes Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, who lumped the tenor of Albarn’s remarks in with Donald Tru...
Mad Max: Fury Road might be one of the most acclaimed action movies in recent history, but the journey sure didn’t come easy. George Miller’s 2015 masterpiece spent years in development limbo before it finally came to life, meaning the director had time to consider hundreds of casting options. Apparently, even Eminem and Rihanna weren’t out of the question. Pop culture reporter Kyle Buchanan goes long on the behind-the-scenes drama of Fury Road in his new book, Blood, Sweat & Chrome. In an excerpt of the book published in Vulture, Miller revealed his surprising idea to cast Eminem as Max. “[Eminem had] done 8 Mile, and I found that really interesting — I thought, ‘He’s got that quality,’” Miller said. “We’d done the first Happy Feet with the late Brittany Murphy, a...
The Beths are back and pining for lasting change with the new song “A Real Thing.” The New Zealand rockers toggle between dreamy pop-infused guitars and a jarring, fretful chorus. Lead singer Liz Stokes opens with an image of regular people attempting to battle climate change. “Picking up the tires from the side of the road/ Gonna push back the coming tide,” she sings. But the chorus undercuts the sentiment: “Getting rhyme over reason,” she wails, implying that while such actions sound good in theory, they’re not helping in the long run. She continues, “It’s a sinister silly season/ Maybe we can end up meaning a real thing.” “‘A Real Thing’ is a kind of anxiety dream. It’s a bit muddled, a bit frantic, a bit sinister,” Stokes said in a statement. “‘A Real Thing’ is what came out ...
The beloved intergalactic cartoon Futurama will return in 2023 with 20 new episodes airing on Hulu. Most of the show’s principal voice cast, including Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy), are returning for the upcoming reboot. John DiMaggio, who voices Bender, is not currently attached to the project. Deadline reports that DiMaggio felt the contract offer “was not competitive based on the success and name recognition of of the original series.” The role of Bender is being recast ahead of next week’s first table read, but both DiMaggio and 20th Television Animation are optimistic about an eventual deal, according to Deadline. On the heels of the two recent No. 1 singles at Active Rock radio, “Distance” and “Don’t Back Down”, a Grammy nomination (“Best Rock Song” for “Distance”) and two iHeart Radio Award nominations (“Rock Artist Of The Year” and “Best New Rock Artist”), MAMMOTH WVH has released an official music video for “Epiphany” — the third single from its self-titled debut. “Epiphany” is currently in the Top 15 at Active Rock radio and moving towards bringing band mastermind Wolfgang Van Halen his third Top 10 single. The single version of “Epiphany” was recently released on Spotify. The music video is a live performance compilation that was filmed at two headline shows last October and one of...
ECW Press has set an April 19 release date for the book “The Meaning Of Metallica: Ride The Lyrics”. Join William Irwin, a philosophy professor, literary critic and heavy metal scholar who teaches at King’s College in Pennsylvania, as he traces the lyrical development of the “thinking man’s” metal band and uses the themes in METALLICA‘s work to illuminate topics such as truth, identify, questions of life and death, the mind-body problem, justice and more. More than 40 years since their formation, and 125 million albums later, METALLICA is as relevant as ever. Much has been written about the band, but “The Meaning Of Metallica” is the first book to focus exclusively on their lyrics. Their mighty guitar riffs and pounding drums are legend...
KORN‘s Ray Luzier has reflected on the passing of Joey Jordison, saying the founding SLIPKNOT drummer “had such good music in him.” Joey‘s family confirmed that he died “peacefully in his sleep” last July of an unspecified cause. KORN recruited Jordison in 2007 to join them on tour when drummer David Silveria went on hiatus from the band. Joey also appeared in the music video for KORN‘s single “Evolution”. Speaking to Gigwise, Luzier said that Jordison‘s death was difficult to process. “He had some demons, like a lot of people do, and I lost quite a few band friends, and people who I was quite close to in the music industry across the past two, three years,” the KORN drummer said. “It’s never easy. It’...
DISTURBED‘s David Draiman has blasted Trevor Noah as “a hypocritical, self-righteous, pathetic man” after “The Daily Show” host implied podcaster Joe Rogan is guilty of racism. Over the weekend, Rogan apologized after a montage of clips showed him repeatedly using the N-word over the years. Rogan also addressed a 2013 clip from his podcast in which he discussed going to see a “Planet Of The Apes” movie in a predominantly black neighborhood. He said that walking into the movie theater was like walking into “Planet Of The Apes”. In Rogan‘s apology, he denied calling black people “apes” and insisted it “wasn’t a racist story, but it sounded terrible,” explaining he was “just trying to be entertaini...
