Razzie Nominations 2022: LeBron James, Diana, the Musical, and a Whole Bruce Willis Category

Stick out your tongue and blow a salute to the best of 2021’s worst. The Golden Raspberry Awards have announced their nominations for the 2022 Razzies, and the field is led by Diana the Musical, a pair of nods each for LeBron James and Amy Adams, and a whole category devoted to Bruce Willis’ execrable year. The stage is set in the Worst Picture category, which has honored (?) the Netflix version of the ill-fated Broadway show Diana, the Musical, as well as the confusing Mark Wahlberg vehicle Infinite, the BET Original horror story Karen, WarnerMedia’s branding exercise in search of a plot, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and Amy Adams’ Hitchcock retread The Woman in the Window. Adams herself was nominated for Worst Actress for The Woman in th...

Halo – AMORPHIS

RATING: 9/10 Rhetorical question coming up: has there even been a more underrated band than AMORPHIS? Despite being insanely consistent and unwaveringly singular for over 30 years, the Finns have never really fit neatly into any ongoing or newly revived category, and the result is that far too little attention is paid to the overwhelming quality of this band’s music. Whether that will change when “Halo” reaches people’s ears is debatable, but this is yet another tour de force. The album is yet another collection of intricate but emotionally supercharged metal songs, all steeped in the imagery and atmospheres of Finland’s sacred Kalevala, but as punchy, timely and pertinent as anything else going on in modern metal. Part of the magic that lurks on just about ev...

Ex-TROUBLE Singer ERIC WAGNER: Lyric Video For Title Track Of Posthumous Solo Album Now Available

The official lyric video for “In The Lonely Light Of Mourning”, the title track from former TROUBLE singer Eric Wagner‘s posthumous solo album, can be seen below. The song features a guest solo from PLACE OF SKULLS/ex-PENTAGRAM guitarist Victor Griffin. “The title track is lyrically foreboding musically, vocally raw and emotional,” says Dave Snyder, who co-wrote the entire album with Wagner. “It’s intentionally spacious. We talked about the ‘less is more’ approach,’ leaving space to breathe. When we were putting this one together, Eric said once the chorus kicks in, ‘it’s gut-wrenching.’ I love that! “Being a huge fan of Eric and Victor‘s work, I was ecstatic when Eric told me Victor was on board for ...

Operation Ivy’s Jesse Michaels and Tim Armstrong Reunite to Perform “Sound System”

For only the second time since Operation Ivy’s disbandment in 1989, frontman Jesse Michaels and guitarist Tim Armstrong performed music together live on stage. On Saturday night, Michaels made a surprise appearance at Los Angeles’ Musack Rock and Roll Carnival, where he joined Armstrong’s band The Interrupters for a performance of Op Ivy’s “Sound System.” Michaels previously shared the stage with Armstrong and fellow Op Ivy bandmate Matt Freeman during a Rancid concert in 2006, where the trio reunited to play “Unity” and “Sound System.” During a podcast appearance last month, Michaels said he “wouldn’t object to” a full-fledged Operation Ivy reunion, but added that “I don’t know if it could happen for various practical reasons.” Advertisement Related Video “We have gotten offers, other peo...

Nandi Bushell Honors Neil Peart with Masterful Drum Cover of Rush’s “Tom Sawyer”: Watch

Nandi Bushell continues to amaze us. After conquering Tool’s complex “Forty Six & 2” in December, the 11-year-old prodigy is back with a commanding drum cover of the Rush classic “Tom Sawyer.” Not too many seasoned drummers would dare attempt to match the virtuoso drumming of the late Neil Peart, but the young Nandi once again proves why she is a musical force of nature. With a smile on her face, Nandi doesn’t miss a beat as she plays along to the iconic prog-rock song. “This one is for you Professor Peart,” wrote Nandi in the YouTube description. “I wanted to try a Rush song that would really challenge me. I watched an interview where the Professor said Tom Sawyer ‘remains so difficult to play.’ So I thought I would give it a try. It’s actually really fun to play. I really hope I have...

Daft Punk Ice Dance About Alien and Astronaut Helps Team USA Win Silver Medal: Watch

Madison Chock played an alien and Evan Bates an astronaut in an epic Olympic ice dance routine set to a medley of Daft Punk songs. The pair placed first in the free dance portion of the team figure skating event, helping Team USA take home a silver medal at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Team figure skating began on February 4th and wrapped up with three events on February 7th. After Team USA had a disappointing fifth-place finish in pairs free skate and only managed fourth in women’s free skate, Chock and Bates came through with a clutch ice dance routine, narrowly pushing Team USA past Japan for the silver medal. The Russian Olympic Committee won gold by a comfortable margin. Chock and Bates’s routine began where Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories ended, with “Contact” and an astronaut n...

NITA STRAUSS On Upcoming ALICE COOPER Album: ‘ALICE Wanted Us To Make A Record That Sounds Like His Band’

Nita Strauss, the Los Angeles-based guitar shredder for the ALICE COOPER band, spoke to Toronto’s 94.9 The Rock radio station about what it has been like to work with legendary Canadian producer Bob Ezrin on Alice‘s upcoming follow-up to last year’s “Detroit Stories” album. She said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Bob definitely has his own style of working, his own personality, and as long as you understand that and that rapport, I think Bob is an amazing, amazing person. He’s an amazing person to work with regardless, but I definitely think you have to understand his production style and his critique style and understand where he’s going with everything in his specific vision. We had a great time making the record.” According t...

Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist CHRIS POLAND Hasn’t Spoken To DAVE MUSTAINE In Nearly Two Decades

In a new interview with Pierre Gutiérrez of Rock Talks, former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland reflected on the lawsuit he reportedly filed against Dave Mustaine over the 2004 reissue of the band’s “Rust In Peace” album, which contained demos on which Chris performed. “I know there was some flak after when [Dave] released the demo solos or whatever,” Poland said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “And I couldn’t get hold of Dave. I called his manager 10 times and finally, on the eleventh time, I left a message. I said, ‘If you don’t call me back, you’re gonna be hearing from [my attorney].’ And so he calls me back. And then he insults me and tells me, ‘Well, Chris, all you did was a couple of solos and Dave and us t...

Cate Le Bon: Pompeii

“Faced with a choice, do both,” Brian Eno once proffered. On Cate Le Bon’s apocalyptically titled but sky-reaching sixth album, the Welsh art-pop iconoclast orients her bemused songs by the compass of this oblique strategy. Le Bon collages the saxophones and bass grooves of Pompeii into a heady harmonic mix of psychedelia and pop, awe and bewilderment, amplifying both her criss-crossing inscrutability and the inexhaustible pleasures of clarity. These inquisitive songs feel, to borrow a word from one of her lyrics, “multidirectional.” Now based in California’s Mojave Desert—a peculiar, austere, and immersive landscape, not unlike that of her songs—Le Bon has been making records for her entire adult life. But she likened the process of her last, 2019’s Reward, to writing a first album. She h...
