Larry Mullen Jr.: If U2 Tours in 2023, It Won’t Be With Me

U2 have had the same four-piece lineup since 1976, but according to drummer Larry Mullen Jr., that could change in 2023. In a new interview with The Washington Post, Mullen said he probably wouldn’t join the band on the road if they decide to tour next year, since he requires surgery from years of performing. “You only do this if you’re having the best time,” Mullen stated. “And not everyone is going to make it because the price is so high. So I think the challenge is for more generosity. More openness to the process. I am autonomous and I value my autonomy. I don’t sing from the same hymn sheet. I don’t pray to the same version of God. So everyone has their limits. And you only do this if it is a great time you’re having, you know?” That said, Mullen’s statement seems more like a pragmati...

Sons of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Iron Maiden’s Janick Gers Share Single “Red Skies”: Stream

Dylan Gers, son of Iron Maiden’s Janick Gers, and Noah Yorke, son of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, have shared the new collaborative single “Red Skies.” Musically, “Red Skies” hews closer to Radiohead’s cracked take on rock music than Iron Maiden’s heavy metal. Yorke’s guitar picks out a pensive minor-key waltz as Gers sings, “You’re watching the road twist and twine/ My lord/ Seeing that rain drip upon/ That stove.” “I hope you enjoy the inner workings of our minds,” Gers wrote on Instagram. Via Louder Sound, he added, “I’m truly more excited with this than anything I’ve done in my life.” Advertisement Related Video Yorke said that the song was “written and sung by dyl with me on 12 string, bass, vocal harmonies, and piano and some other bits,” continuing, “We’re really proud of it. Hamish Kilgour, the New Zealand musician who co-founded the pioneering indie rock band The Clean, has died at age 65. Representatives for the band confirmed the drummer was found dead after being reported missing in November. A cause of death was not revealed. “With very heavy hearts, we can confirm that Hamish Kilgour has passed away in his home country of New Zealand,” The Clean’s US label Merge Records said in a statement shared with Pitchfork. Kilgour and his brother David founded The Clean in Dunedin, New Zealand in 1978. Their most famous lineup included bassist Robert Scott, and after signing to fledgling indie label Flying Nun, the trio helped establish the “Dunedin Sound,” complete with David’s angular guitar and Hamish’s robotic drumming. Gunman Who Shot Lady Gaga’s Dog Walker Sentenced to 21 Years in Prison

James Howard Jackson, the man who shot Lady Gaga’s dog walker, Ryan Fischer, in 2021 before making off with two of her French bulldogs, was sentenced to 21 years in prison. Jackson, 20, pleaded no contest to attempted murder with great bodily injury in a Los Angeles courtroom December 5th. In a last-minute plea deal, the gunman admitted to a prior strike, allowing prosecutors to drop related robbery and weapons charges. In February 2021, Jackson and two associates confronted Fischer, 41, on a Hollywood street and demanded he turn over Gaga’s three French bulldogs. The men were not aware that the dogs belonged to the pop star, but knew they were of a rare and expensive breed. When Fischer refused to give them the dogs, Jackson shot him with a .40-caliber handgun at close range. The bullet p...

Jonah Hill Gets Grilled by Eddie Murphy in Trailer for Netflix’s You People: Watch

Asking a father for permission to marry his daughter is hard enough, but as Jonah Hill finds out in the teaser trailer for Kenya Barris’ feature directorial debut You People, Eddie Murphy is a particularly tough nut to crack. In the preview of the Netflix comedy, Hill’s Ezra Cohen sits down with his partner Amira Mohammed’s (Lauren London) parents, played by Murphy and Nia Long, at the Los Angeles landmark Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. Self-conscious about growing up in a different faith and cultural background, Hill’s character can’t stop digging a hole for himself during the conversation. To be fair, he’s put on the defensive from the beginning. “Do you hang out in the hood all the time or do you just come here for our food and women?” Murphy asks. Later on, Hill says “mixed race people ...

Letter From the Editor: We Made It!!

December? Already? I didn’t want to believe it, but then I thoughtfully gazed out the frost-covered window and saw all the leaves had dropped dead near my New York City apartment, and I had no choice but to accept two truths: A) 2022 is basically over and B) There hasn’t actually been any frost yet, turns out I just need to clean my window. The good news is that we’ve got something — many somethings, even — to show for it. The Consequence team did a ton this year, from launching cover stories in April (many shout-outs to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jack White, and Ozzy Osbourne, our first group of willing artists) and covering festivals around the world, to bringing back our Midyear Report and celebrating our 15th anniversary on this earth. Along the way, as many artists returned from hibernati...

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey “Take On” Clickers in The Last of Us Trailer: Watch

The official trailer for HBO’s The Last of Us has been revealed, and the looming threat from the first look and teaser has finally clicked into place with an expanded preview of the zombie apocalypse video game adaptation. The clip begins with Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, as lead characters Joel and Ellie, traversing across country on a mission connected to the younger passenger’s apparent immunity to a devastating zombie virus. Over a cinematic spin on a-ha’s “Take On Me,” the pair confront an army of the infected, who appear throughout the trailer in varying stages of transformation into the monstrous “clickers,” and also stumble into chance encounters with more survivors, played by the likes of an armed-and-dangerous Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Murray Bartlett, and more. Pascal an...
