Who Is the Monster on Netflix’s Wednesday?

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of Wednesday.] Like many coming-of-age TV shows, Netflix’s latest hit series Wednesday uses a murder mystery as a central thread for its plot. Shortly after Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) is expelled from her high school and transferred to Nevermore Academy in the backwoods of Vermont, the aloof teenager discovers there has been a monster picking off her fellow outcasts one by one. Once she learns of a premonition in which she appears to destroy the school, Wednesday resolves to get to the bottom of the mystery by using her psychic abilities passed down through generations. While still learning to interpret her own visions, the eldest Addams Family sibling manages to alienate almost everyone around her while also putti...

Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood Pen Tributes to Christine McVie: “See You On the Other Side”

Musicians and fans are mourning Christine McVie, the legendary vocalist and “songbird” of Fleetwood Mac, who died November 30th at the age of 79. McVie, who joined Fleetwood Mac in 1971, “passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family,” read a statement. “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” Fleetwood Mac added in a separate statement. “She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her. Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we h...

Danny Masterson Rape Trial Ends With Hung Jury

The judge in Danny Masterson’s rape trial declared a mistrial on Wednesday after the jurors said they were unable to reach verdict on any of the charges. The former That ’70s Show actor was charged with three counts of sexual assault. In a note to Judge Charlaine Olmedo (via Variety), the jury said that “we are not even close to coming to an unanimous decision on any count, and are convinced this will not change.” Two of the 12 jurors found Masterson guilty on count one; four found him guilty on count two; and five found him guilty on count three. The jury — seven men and five women — deliberated for six days. They were forced to start over on Monday when two of the jurors contracted COVID-19 and were replaced with alternates. A retrial has been tentatively set for March 27th. Masterson, 4...

The Nevermore Academy Orchestra Rules the Wednesday Soundtrack: Stream

Based on that iconic dance scene, the Nevermore Academy is the place to be for Wednesday’s goth fans, so it makes sense that the fictional school’s orchestra is credited with the Netflix series’ soundtrack. The Wednesday soundtrack begins with a string performance of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” courtesy of Miss Addams herself. From there, the Nevermore Academy Orchestra takes us through the chorus of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” before turning to some classical favorites: Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons – Winter: I. Allegro Non Molto” and Elgar’s “Concerto in E Minor for Violoncello and Orchestra.” Wednesday has been a runaway hit since premiering on Netflix earlier this month — it even broke Stranger Things’ viewership record. Tim Burton’s take on the Addams Fam...

Horatio Sanz Sexual Assault Lawsuit Dismissed

A 2021 lawsuit against Horatio Sanz, which accused the comedian of grooming and sexually assaulting an underage girl in 2002, has been dismissed. The suit was dismissed with prejudice by both parties, meaning it cannot be refiled. “All claims asserted by Plaintiff Jane Doe … are hereby dismissed with prejudice, without costs and attorneys’ fees to any party or against any other party,” the filing said (per NBC News). An attorney for the unidentified plaintiff said in a statement, “The parties have resolved their dispute and have moved on.” Last August, the plaintiff accused Sanz of groping and digitally penetrating her at a May 2022 Saturday Night Live afterparty when she was 17 years old (Sanz would have been 32 at the time). What’s more, the woman said Sanz had been grooming her since sh...

Joe Pesci Sustained “Serious Burns” While Filming the Stunts in Home Alone 2

The best part of the Home Alone films is watching a young Macaulay Culkin inflict serious pain on Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern, but the movies’ absurd slapstick comedy actually caused real consequences for Pesci. Looking back on the 30th anniversary of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York for People, Pesci recalled sustaining “serious burns” while filming a certain scene in the beloved sequel. “In addition to the expected bumps, bruises, and general pains that you would associate with that particular type of physical humor, I did sustain serious burns to the top of my head during the scene where Harry’s hat is set on fire,” Pesci said. While the actor noted that “I was fortunate enough to have professional stuntmen do the real heavy stunts,” it was really him getting blowt...

Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez of ††† (Crosses) Open Up on Split with Chuck Doom: “He Just Really Wasn’t Present”

Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez of ††† (Crosses) have opened up about the difficult decision to continue the project without onetime member Chuck Doom. The trio formed Crosses in 2011 and released three EPs and a 2014 self-titled album. Then the group ostensibly went on hiatus until reemerging in 2020, sans Chuck Doom. As Moreno and Lopez explained in a new interview with Kerrang!, the hiatus was partially due to a crumbling professional relationship between the duo and Doom. “[Chuck] was going this way, I was going that way, and Chino was caught in the middle,” Lopez revealed. “I think Chuck wanted to do his solo thing and involve Chino, which kind of meant he wanted to do Crosses without me. … It was a bummer because the whole reason this stopped for that many years is because of one person...

Christine McVie, Fleetwood Mac’s “Songbird,” Dead at 79

Christine McVie, the legendary vocalist and songwriter who lifted Fleetwood Mac with clear-eyed optimism, has died at the age of 79. McVie “passed away peacefully at hospital this morning, Wednesday, November 30th 2022, following a short illness. She was in the company of her family,” according to a statement. “We kindly ask that you respect the family’s privacy at this extremely painful time, and we would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being, and revered musician who was loved universally.” “There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” Fleetwood Mac added in a separate statement. “She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have ...

Ang Lee to Direct Son Mason Lee in Bruce Lee Biopic

They’re in a Lee-gue of their own: Ang Lee has cast his own son Mason Lee in an upcoming biopic of legendary martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. Ang Lee is both a master of fighting spectacles (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and a helmer of deep character studies (Brokeback Mountain), so he would seem to be uniquely suited to the task. As Variety reports, the film is produced by Sony and 3000 Pictures while Dan Futterman (Capote, Foxcatcher) is adapting the screenplay from earlier versions of a script by Jean Castelli, Alex Law and Mabel Cheung, and Wells Tower. “Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Gung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who re...
