Like many other bands, Phish responded to the omicron surge by postponing their planned residency at Madison Square Garden. Now, the jam band has announced they are offering fans the next best thing: a New Year’s Eve livestream. Beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET on December 31st, Phish will play three full sets without an audience from the Ninth Cube. Fans can livestream the show for free on the band’s YouTube channel and LivePhish.com. It will also be broadcast on SiriusXM’s Phish Radio. The livestream event is the latest installment in Phish’s Dinner And A Movie series, which features recipes chosen by the band. For New Year’s Eve, the band has shared with fans the recipes for Trey Anastasio’s own lemonade, roasted chicken with lemon, a lemon pasta vegetarian entrée, and lemon bars for dess...
It’s hard to tell if Grimes’ priorities lie in music or Internet trolling these days, but she’s apparently switching them up soon. The experimental pop artist has announced she will be changing her “day job” once she releases her upcoming album, Book 1, citing the toxicity of celebrity culture. “Celebrity culture is suffocating a f,” Grimes tweeted. “I’m not quitting music, but def changing my main day job after BOOK 1. Music industry feels old and tired, reliant on archaic systems.” Separately, Grimes recently teased a collaboration with The Weeknd on her official Discord server. As Stereogum points out, the team-up makes sense, since her recent song “Player of Games” was co-produced by the R&B singer’s frequent collaborator Illangelo and featured a music video directed...
The Matrix Resurrections just debuted in theaters and on HBO Max last week, but fans have already been anticipating a sequel due to the open-ended nature of the final moments. In separate interviews, however, both Keanu Reeves and producer James McTeigue attempted to put any speculation to rest. During an appearance on the Empire podcast, Reeves said he didn’t think director Lana Wachowski was interested in doing another Matrix movie. “If I had to cast a ballot — no, not a ballot, a vote — I would say that Lana would not do another Matrix,” he said. When co-star Carrie-Anne Moss pointed out that they once thought the same thing about Resurrections, Reeves added, “I’m there if it’s there… If she invites me again, I’m in.” Advertisement Related Video McTeigue was more direct in his...
Saturday Night Live star Kyle Mooney went from ensemble cast member to the main event this year with Saturday Morning All-Star Hits! (aka S.M.A.S.H.), an animated and live-action Netflix series that sees him host and act in a wonderfully weird ode to ’80s and ’90s television. The show just premiered its first season on December 10th, but in a new interview with Consequence, Mooney revealed that he’d be open to making a Season 2 — once he’s had time to recuperate from Season 1. “Right now, I think we’re just getting over, like, I don’t want to say the stress, but just the emotions associated with like putting something out there,” Mooney said. “Dave and I made a movie a few years ago, but it’s been a while since like I’ve thrown something out there into the world. It’s such an int...
To celebrate the life and times of MÖTÖRHEAD‘s iconic leader Ian Fraser “Lemmy” Kilmister, who passed away exactly six years ago — on December 28, 2015 — Revolver recently reached out to musicians who knew and/or admired him, including his old friend Rob Halford of JUDAS PRIEST. Speaking about his relationship with Lemmy, Rob said: “On a friendship level, I was always a little bit in awe of Lemmy because he was — and still is — this larger-than-life persona. When you talk to anybody about Lemmy, you see this mental picture in your head — the guy in the cowboy boots and the jeans and the bullet belt and the leather jacket and the mustache. His physical characteristics are really, really pronounced, so you’ve got all that wrapped up in his persona, as well.̶...
FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares, who has yet to publicly reveal the identity of the band’s replacement for Burton C. Bell, spoke about the singer change in a recent interview with El Lado Oscuro. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The future is gonna be definitely very challenging for sure. Everything is — life is. Every day we wake up can be a new challenge. But it’s how we take on those challenges. And for me, it’s been very positive. “I’ve had a lot of people around the world contact me regarding the position of singing for FEAR FACTORY, and I look forward to it,” he continued. “I look forward to where this new person can take us — to a different chapter of FEAR FACTORY.” Regarding what he was looking for in Bell̵...
While filming a new video message on Cameo, renowned bassist Phil Soussan (ex-OZZY OSBOURNE) spoke about what it has been like joining LAST IN LINE in 2016 following the passing of the band’s original bassist Jimmy Bain. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Jimmy was a really good friend of mine. It’s almost ironic that I end up playing in LAST IN LINE and kind of covering for him in a way. I’m paying tribute to his songs. I try to channel Jimmy on the DIO songs that we play, try to do what he does, and also I try to imagine what he would do on the other material while still being able to do it within my own wheelhouse. It’s tough. You wanna put your own spin on things but you also want to pay tribute to the pre-existing DNA of the original DIO band....

When it comes to parodies, it’s hard to imagine anything more hyper-specific than Saturday Morning All-Star Hits! (A.K.A. S.M.A.S.H.), the hybrid animation/live-action series created by Ben Jones, Dave McCary, and Kyle Mooney. With Mooney starring as many roles, including twin co-hosts Skip and Treybor, the Netflix comedy spotlights a fictional late ’80s/early ’90s cartoon block, through the framework of “found” VHS tapes. “Yes, if you were actively watching cartoons in 1989 and 1990, it’ll probably mean something slightly different to you than if you weren’t,” Mooney tells Consequence by phone. Advertisement But, he adds, he hopes that it still has some universality to it. “I love, for instance, Robert Smigel’s TV Funhouse clips, where he was doing, I would imagine, ’60s, ’70s Hanna-Barbe...
This feature originally ran in September 2014. We’re reposting it in celebration of Denzel Washington’s 67th birthday today. Top Performances is a recurring feature in which we definitively handpick the very best performances from an iconic actor or actress. Six-time Academy Award nominee and two-time winner. Can play it over-the-top, but knows when he needs to play it cool, to play down. One of the more gracious actors you’ll ever see on the big screen. I’m talking, of course, about Denzel Washington, and through careful consideration, Leah Pickett and I have gone through his filmography to select his 10 finest performances. Keep in mind these rankings are based on Washington’s performances, not the movies in which he performed. Did we forget anything? Did we place a performanc...
Live music was one of the industries hit hardest when the COVID-19 pandemic began. Shock rock icon Alice Cooper saw the writing on the wall and put money aside for his road crew as lockdowns hit last year. In a new interview with Forbes, Cooper revealed that he supported his crew during the tough time before the widespread return of concerts. He only hopes other major acts did the same. “When we saw this coming, we put money aside for our crew,” Cooper said. “We could see that it was… something. So we put money aside as a backup for them. Because we knew that their unemployment would run out, you know? And then they’d have something to go to. I think all responsible bands did that. Hopefully.” Advertisement Related Video Cooper is known for his elaborate stage show and theatrical set piece...
