NEW FOUND GLORY’s CHAD GILBERT Undergoes Surgery To Remove Tumor Of Adrenal Gland

Guitarist Chad Gilbert of the long-running pop-punk band NEW FOUND GLORY has been diagnosed with pheochromocytoma, a rare type of tumor that develops in the adrenal glands, small glands on the top of the kidneys. A week after his diagnosis, the 40-year-old musician underwent successful surgery to remove the tumor and has since credited his wife and the hospital staff with saving his life. Gilbert, who co-founded NEW FOUND GLORY in 1997, detailed his ordeal in an Instagram post which included a post-operation photo of him lying apparently sedated in his hospital bed. He wrote: “For the last 14 days I’ve been living in the hospital having cancer removed. Here’s the timeline of my unexpected journey: “On December 5th, my wife found me unresponsive in bed. Thom Yorke Shares Sixth Sonos Radio Mix: Stream

Thom Yorke has returned with the sixth edition of his ongoing Sonos radio show, “In the Absence Thereof.” Check out the playlist below. “In the Absence Thereof…v6” is a particularly cinematic mix. Whereas Yorke’s last playlist featured the familiar sounds of Tom Waits and Madlib, this installment veers toward the instrumental. Chiming percussion dominates Mark Fell’s opening song “INTRA-3,” while droning keys swell in Terry Riley’s “Across the Lake of the Ancient World” and Arvo Pärt’s  “Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten.” Yorke’s latest mix isn’t all instrumental, however. UK rappers Space Afrika and Blackhaine spit over a glitchy beat in “B£E,” and The Bug’s “How bout dat” sees FFSYTHO rap over a slow, dark crawl. Yorke’s son, Noah, even appears on the playlist with “Trying Too H...

Metallica Dig Out More Deep Cuts for Second and Final 40th Anniversary Show: Review

Setting the Stage: The first night of Metallica’s two 40th anniversary shows at in San Francisco’s Chase Center delivered a strong career-spanning set, so expectations ran high for Night 2 a couple of evenings later (Sunday, December 19th). Once more, no special guests were present for this final performance (unlike their 30th anniversary concerts), but quite a few setlist surprises occurred. Similar to the first night, the setlist was constructed in a manner that featured a tune or two from each album chronologically. But, this night, instead of starting from 1983’s Kill ‘Em All and running through 2016’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, it was set up in reverse order, starting with the band’s last album and finishing up with selections from their debut.  Taking the Stage: As with the fi...

The Story Behind Crowded House’s “Hey Now, Hey Now” Anthem “Don’t Dream It’s Over”

Listen via Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google Podcasts | Pocket Casts | RSS Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over” is one of the most memorable tunes of the ’80s, and the band’s Neil Finn explores that lasting legacy on the latest edition of The Story Behind the Song. Crowded House helped launch a new post-New Wave era in pop music in 1986, creating beautifully simple, earthy melodies driven by guitars rather than synths. Lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter Neil Finn founded the band after the demise of Split Enz (a Kiwi band out of New Zealand with several iconic songs of its own.) Over the years, the band has somewhat quietly sold over 15 million albums worldwide and continues to release new music; just earlier this year, the band rele...

Alabama Shakes Drummer Steve Johnson’s Child Abuse Case Dismissed

The child abuse case against Alabama Shakes drummer Steve Johnson was dismissed last Thursday (December 16th). Per local CBS affiliate WHNT, Circuit Judge Matthew Huggins dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled. Back in March, Johnson was arrested after being indicted on charges of “willful torture, willful abuse, and cruelly beating or otherwise willfully maltreating a child under the age of 18.” He spent 15 days in jail before being released on a $26,5000 bond. Johnson previously pleaded guilty in March 2020 to violating a domestic violence protection order. He received a suspended sentence of a year in jail, with 24 months on probation. Mac DeMarco Covers “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”: Stream

Mac DeMarco is back with a new addition to his Christmas covers cannon. This year, he’s taken on the 1943 classic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Written by Kim Gannon and Walter Kent, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” was originally recorded by Bing Crosby, centering around Crosby’s slow crooning and a swell of lush strings. In DeMarco’s chilled-out version, the singer’s go-to piano adds a jazzy touch to the standard, and a bent-note guitar solo makes the song sound like a DeMarco original. In the accompanying music video, an anthropomorphic inflatable tree traverses the streets before setting up shop in a Christmas tree farm. Check out the video below. Rick Ross Takes Bathroom Break Mid-Interview, Never Returns

It’s nothing too out of the ordinary for artists to make a getaway mid-interview, but Rick Ross pulled off possibly the best Irish Goodbye in recent memory. During an appearance on The 85 South Comedy Show last week, the rapper told hosts DC Young Fly, Karlous Miller, and Chico Bean that he needed to use the bathroom, only to never return. All seemed to be going well in the interview, with Ross happily engaging in conversation as weed and snacks made the rounds among the group. After gladly discussing his early singles “Hustlin’” and “Push It,” Ross asked to be excused: “Let me use the bathroom one time,” he said, taking a swig of his drink before walking off the set. After a few minutes of the hosts passing the time on their own, a crew member emerged to inform them that Ross has ex...
