Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem Tried to Back Out of Being the Ricardos

When word got out that Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem would be playing Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz in Aaron Sorkin’s Being the Ricardos, many scratched their heads: Kidman isn’t exactly the spitting image of Ball, and Bardem isn’t exactly Cuban. Turns out, the actors were a bit confused by the casting themselves. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman and Bardem said they actually tried to get out of the film before shooting began. “I wasn’t aware of how big it was,” Bardem, who grew up in Spain, said of I Love Lucy, Ball and Arnaz’s sitcom-inventing television show. The actor mostly knew of Arnaz from his music with Spanish musician Xavier Cugat. “When I really started digging into him, the deeper I got, the more I knew how iconic [the show] was … i...

Bruce Springsteen Sells Catalog to Sony for $500 Million

Bruce Springsteen has sold his music’s masters and publishing to Sony Music for a reported total of $500 million, according to Billboard. The Boss has been signed to Sony’s Columbia Records since he launched his career, and was previously given ownership of his earlier albums. But now the label owns his wide-spanning catalog, which includes the 15-times platinum album Born in the U.S.A. and five-times platinum album The River. All told, Springsteen’s discography spans 300 songs, 20 studio albums, and 23 live recordings. Springsteen’s deal is the latest transaction involving a veteran artist looking to cash in on their back catalog —  especially as the pandemic put a halt to touring. Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, Shakira, Jimmy Iovine, and Dav...

Who Wore The Leather Biker Look First: ROB HALFORD Or FREDDIE MERCURY? The JUDAS PRIEST Singer Weighs In

In a recent interview with Spain’s Mariskal Rock, JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford was asked who wore the “leather biker look” first — him or late QUEEN frontman Freddie Mercury. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I remember seeing a picture of Freddie with his leather jacket and a cap and a motorcycle, and I’m, like, ‘What the fuck is going on, Freddie?’ [Laughs] “I love him. Freddie is a god — he’s a god,” Rob continued. “His music, his voice, his showmanship, his personality, his charisma. There’ll never, ever be another Freddie Mercury. “But as far as who wore it first, I think I did probably — maybe by a year or two,” Halford added. “Yeah, if that’s important. I don’t ...

DAVE NAVARRO Didn’t Join GUNS N’ ROSES Because He Was ‘Immersed’ In His Drug Addiction

During an appearance on a recent episode of the GUNS N’ ROSES-centric “Appetite For Distortion” podcast, JANE’S ADDICTION guitarist Dave Navarro once again spoke about the fact that he nearly became a member of GN’R two decades ago after Izzy Stradlin‘s departure from the Axl Rose-fronted group. “Axl really wanted me to join the band,” Dave said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “And we talked nearly every day about ideas and the way the band could work with me in it. [But] at that time in my life, I was just simply not present enough to do it. I had an audition with the band that I actually didn’t show up to because I was immersed in my drug addiction and I just simply couldn’t show up in that shape. But it happened the...

Former METALLICA Bassist RON MCGOVNEY Dismisses BIFF BYFORD’s ‘Electric Fan’ Anecdote As ‘Total Fiction’

Former METALLICA bassist Ron McGovney has dismissed SAXON singer Biff Byford‘s anecdote about the first show the two bands played together nearly four decades ago as “total fiction.” During a new appearance on “The Chuck Shute Podcast”, Byford recounted a funny incident that allegedly happened when METALLICA was the support act for SAXON at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California in March 1982. “I think we were out having dinner or something before the gig or doing something,” he recalled. “And METALLICA was setting up on stage. And I wasn’t there. I was there later for their show, but I wasn’t there [when they were setting up]. And I had a huge electric fan there in front of me, and I think METALLICA asked if they could ...

The band stopped short of playing The Lonesome Crowded West in its entirety, however. “We’re not playing ‘Lounge,’ I’ll tell you why. In a recent interview, the director revealed what Pacific Rim 2 would’ve looked like if he had the final say. “The villain was this tech guy that had invented basically sort of the internet 2.0. And then they realized that all his patents came to him one morning,” del Toro told TheWrap. “And so little by little, they started putting together this and they said, ‘Oh, he got them from the precursors.’ The guys that control the kaiju.” He continued, “And then we found out that the precursors are us thousands of years in the future.
