“His Fans Are Unlike Any Other Fans”: 5 Harry Styles Openers on What It’s Like to Open for Harry Styles

There’s nothing else quite like a Harry Styles concert. As anyone who has found themself in Harry’s House over the years can attest, these events have their own distinct color. There’s rituals and inside jokes, like the conga line during “Treat People With Kindness.” There are consistent accessories, no matter what city Styles has set up in — boas, sparkles, glitter, and phenomenal suits tend to abound — and the sense of community from arena to arena is tangible. Before the moment Harry Styles steps (or is rolled) onstage, another act has a critical role to play. A support act for Styles has the responsibility of setting the tone and kicking things off for the enormous, eager crowds, often filled with people who have been waiting in their claimed spots in the pit for hours already. As Styl...

Henry Selick Still Chafes at “Unfair” Title Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas

Henry Selick would like to remove two words from the title of his directorial debut, 1993’s Tim Burton‘s The Nightmare Before Christmas. In a lively new interview with AV Club, he chafed at the “unfair” process that left someone else’s name all over his first movie. “It wasn’t called Tim Burton’s Nightmare until three weeks before the film came out,” Selick said. “And I would have been fine with that, if that’s what I signed up for.” Selick directed The Nightmare Before Christmas from a script by Caroline Thomson that was based on Burton’s characters and story. But Walt Disney Studios, through their label Touchstone Pictures, wanted to take advantage of Burton’s star-power. He was just coming off two wildly-successful Batman movies as well as Ed...

Shanghai Officials Lock Disney Resort Guests Inside Park as Part of Zero-COVID Policy

Shanghai officials locked down the Shanghai Disney Resort on October 31st, refusing to allow theme park guests to leave until they had tested negative for COVID-19. Daniel Radcliffe: “Not Everybody in the Harry Potter Franchise” Is Transphobic Like J.K. Rowling

J.K. Rowling has long since put a dark cloud over her beloved Harry Potter franchise by consistently sharing unsolicited transphobic opinions, but Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe wants fans to know that she doesn’t speak for everyone involved in the fantasy series. The actor once again spoke out against the author’s transphobia in a new interview with Indiewire, in hopes of supporting all Harry Potter fans who identify as LGTBQ+. Radcliffe first distanced himself from Rowling back in 2020, when he penned an open letter for LGBTQ+ nonprofit The Trevor Project where he stated in plain terms that “transgender women are women.” At the time, he offered the disclaimer that his statement was not meant to be seen as “in-fighting between J.K. Rowling and myself,” but a call to actio...

Huey Lewis and the News Sell Majority of Catalog for $20 Million

Huey Lewis and the News have sold the majority of their catalog to Primary Wave Music for around $20 million, Variety reports. The deal includes all of the band’s music from inception through 1994, which includes hit albums like Sports and Fore!  Of the band’s 10-album discography, seven of them were released before 1994, which means Primary Wave now owns hits like “Heart of Rock & Roll,” “Hip to Be Square,” “Workin’ For a Livin’,” and the Back to the Future single “The Power of Love.” In addition to simply owning Huey Lewis and the News’ music, the deal gives the publishing company the right to use the group’s music in marketing, opening the door to synch opportunities in film and television (though let’s be honest, there’s no topping American Psycho‘s use of ...

Ralphie’s Back for the Holidays in First Trailer for A Christmas Story Christmas: Watch

A beloved holiday classic reckons with the passage of time in the new trailer for A Christmas Story Christmas. The sequel to 1983’s A Christmas Story begins streaming November 17th on HBO Max. Peter Billingsley returns as Ralphie Parker, still bespectacled but now closer to the end of his life than the beginning. After the death of his Old Man, he returns to his old Cleveland neighborhood to share Christmas with his kids and help his mother (Julie Hagerty, taking over the part from now-retired actress Melinda Dillon). “Ralphie,” she says in the trailer, “Promise me we’re gonna make this a wonderful Christmas. That would make your father so happy.” Ralphie of course promises, but Billingsley’s narration screams, “What had I done? And now it was all up to me?” A...
