Liam Neeson to Star in New Naked Gun Film From The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer

The Naked Gun will return with a new film, and in place of Leslie Nielsen, Liam Neeson will star — perhaps as the son of Nielsen’s character Frank Derbin. As Deadline reports, Dan Gregor and Doug Mand will pen the new Naked Gun script, while The Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer will direct and executive produce. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing the film through their company Fuzzy Door. Based on the crime spoof series Police Squad!, The Naked Gun franchise began in 1988 with the film From the Files of Police Squad! Nielsen starred in the original film as Det. Sgt. Frank Derbin, a lovable police officer who didn’t exactly have the brains for the job. Nielsen went on to star in two sequels, 1991’s The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear a...

Lizzo Kept Love of Radiohead “Hidden” so She Wouldn’t Be “Made Fun Of” by Classmates

In a new interview, Lizzo said she felt compelled to keep her love of Radiohead “hidden” to avoid being “made fun of” by her classmates. “It was a Black school,” she explained in a Vanity Fair cover story, “mostly Black and brown, Caribbean, I had Nigerian friends… They were all listening to what was on the radio: Usher, Destiny’s Child, Ludacris, and I was into Radiohead’s OK Computer.” She said she “kept it hidden, even when I was in a rock band, because I didn’t want to be made fun of by my peers — they’d yell, ‘White girl!’ Also, I was wearing these flared bell-bottoms with embroidery down it — and they’d say, ‘You look like a white girl, why do you want to look like a hippie?’ I wanted to be accepted so bad; not fitting in really hurt.” Advertisement Related Video It wa...

JPMorgan Chase Cuts Ties with Kanye West Following Allegations He Praised Hitler

JPMorgan Chase has cut ties with Kanye West following his numerous antisemitic comments — including newly surfaced allegations he once praised Hitler and Nazis. Conservator provocateur Candace Owens first shared the news, writing on Twitter that there was “no official reason given” for the JPMorgan Chase’s decision, but West will have until late November to find a new financial institution. In response, West told Page Six he was “happy” about crossing the line into antisemitism “so we can speak openly about things like getting canceled by a bank.” “I was told there was no official reason given, but they sent this letter as well to confirm that he has until late November to find another place for the Yeezy empire to bank,” Owens tweeted alongside a purported photo of the official notice. Centered around the complicated sisterhood of two musically gifted twins as they come of age in the mid-90s, High School is all about what it’s like to discover who you are, and where your talents lie, during these formative years. The nature of being a twin plays a big role in the series, as seen in the below exclusive clip. While Tegan (played by Railey Gilliland) is used to having to look after her sister Sara (Seazynn Gilliand), she finds that constant dynamic in her life being challenged by Maya (Amanda Fix), a new friend from school to whom Tegan is getting closer. I think you are enormously talented (I still love to listen to your band to this day). You have always been so kind to me, not only in the press, but also to others. I really noticed. Emotions between the three of us in...

Black Belt Eagle Scout Returns with New Single “Don’t Give Up”: Stream

It’s been three long years since we’ve heard from Swinomish, Washington’s Black Belt Eagle Scout, but today, the indie rock project of Katherine Paul returns with the new single “Don’t Give Up.” “Don’t Give Up” is a song of persistence that flits seamlessly between steady moments of calm and roaring cacophonies of shoegaze-inspired guitars. “Slow, important love/ It keeps me alive,” Paul sings in the opening lines. “You wanted a second chance at life/ Well, you’re alive.” The song’s title isn’t quite a pep talk, but a reflection of personal growth: “I don’t give up anymore,” she repeats in the chorus. “Spending time with the land and on the water are ways that strengthen my connection to my ancestors and to my culture,” Paul says of the inspiration behind the track. “It helps heal my spiri...

Darren Aronofsky Defends Putting Brendan Fraser in a Fat Suit for The Whale

Though Brendan Fraser is earning Oscar buzz for his portrayal of a 600-pound man named Charlie in The Whale, one of the major criticisms of the Darren Aronofsky film is that the actor had to wear a fat suit to portray his character. In an interview with Variety, the director defended his casting of Fraser instead of an obese actor, saying it was difficult to find someone who could pull off the role from an emotional perspective. Aronofsky also said it became “a crazy chase” to find an actor heavy enough for the role. “There was a chapter in the making of this film where we tried to research obese actors,” Aronofsky told Variety. “Outside of not being able to find an actor who could pull off the emotions of the role, it just becomes a crazy chase. Like, if you can’t find a 600-pound ac...

The 1975’s 10 Best Songs

There are British pop rock bands, there are British pop rock bands with charismatic frontmen, and then there’s The 1975. From their inception in the late 2000s, the quartet — comprised of vocalist and songwriter Matty Healy, drummer and producer George Daniel, bassist Ross MacDonald, and guitarist Adam Hahn — have spanned from scrappy funk to post-hardcore, hi-fi pop songs to paranoid New Wave, with songs that can be painfully revealing amidst songs that are jam-packed with jokes and absurdist commentary. Their 2013 self-titled debut was wildly popular (especially in the Tumblr Era), but the new wave pastiche and occasionally indulgent aura of Matty Healy led to a few detractors — this writer included. At the time, it was hard to understand what was so special about this band, what allowed...

The Strokes Recorded a New Album On Top of a Mountain with Rick Rubin

The Strokes recently recorded a new album in Costa Rica with producer Rick Rubin. Rubin shared the news during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience that went live on Wednesday (October 12th). “A few months ago, I was in Costa Rica recording a new album with The Strokes,” Rubin revealed. “We rented this house on the top of a mountain and set the band up outside. So it’s like, they’re doing a concert for the ocean on the top of a mountain. And we did that everyday — it was incredible. They didn’t want to leave, it was like the best experience.” The as-yet-unannounced album would mark the follow-up to 2020’s The New Abnormal, which was also produced by Rubin.
