Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus Reveals Cancer Type: “My Blood’s Trying to Kill Me”
After a few months of undergoing treatment on the down-low, Mark Hoppus has revealed his exact type of cancer. The Blink-182 singer/bassist confirmed in a recent Twitch Q&A that he’s been diagnosed with 4-A diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, the same type of cancer his mother survived. In his words: “My blood’s trying to kill me.” Hoppus specified that he would soon be going in for a PET scan to determine the effects of his chemotherapy so far. “Ideally I go in tomorrow and they say, ‘Congratulations! Your chemotherapy has worked and you are all done and you’ll never have to think about this cancer again for the rest of your life,’” the 49-year-old rocker explained. “Even if the cancer’s totally gone from my whole body, they give me three more rounds of chemo just to make sure.” Hopp...

Protomartyr Announce US Tour Dates with The Breeders’ Kelley Deal
Last year, Protomartyr was one of countless bands whose tour was cut short due to the pandemic. Now, they’re finally ready to get back on the road. Better yet, on their upcoming US tour they’ll be joined by none other than Kelley Deal of The Breeders on guitar. The 13-date trek will see Protomartyr performing live in the Midwest and East Coast. They kick things off on November 8th in Chicago with a two-night set at the Empty Bottle before they drive to Milwaukee, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and a few other cities. Back in March, Thom Yorke created a new remix of the Radiohead classic “Creep” to soundtrack fashion designer Jun Takahashi’s Undercover Fall 2021 fashion show Creep Very. Now, Yorke has officially released the full version of the song, and you can stream it ahead. As fans are well aware, Radiohead aren’t exactly fans of the Pablo Honey, often only playing it reluctantly as it’s “expected” at this point in their career. New music from Strand of Oaks is on the way. In Heaven, the upcoming album from Tim Showalter’s folk rock project, is out October 1st. As a preview, Showalter has shared the album’s breezy first single, “Galacticana,” as well as a slew of US tour dates for fall 2021. In Heaven marks the first Strand of Oaks album since Showalter’s recent relocation to Austin, Texas. Fender Announces Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang Guitar to Mark 30th Anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind
Fender is reviving its signature Kurt Cobain Jag-Stang electric guitar to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s seminal album Nevermind. The guitar was originally designed by Cobain for Fender in 1993. It combined the late grunge legend’s favorite aspects of his two go-to instruments: the Jaguar and the Mustang. Per Cobain’s specs, the Jag-Stang features an alder body, 24” short scale length, 7.25” radius rosewood fingerboard, and vintage-style single-coil and custom humbucking pickups. It will be produced in both sonic blue and fiesta red colors, and left-handed and right-handed models will be available. With touring and most typical forms of recording shut down during the pandemic, many musicians found new ways to channel their artistic urges. Thurston Moore threw himself into writing, resulting in a new memoir called Sonic Life, which has just been picked up for publication. The Sonic Youth co-founder first mentioned work on the book while speaking with Vulture late last year. “This downtime period allowed me to do this,” he said at the time, “so I have this manuscript called Sonic Life that I probably will publish at some point in 2021.” Though publication rights for the memoir were indeed secured, Moore’s timeline was a little off — by two years. The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft Pulls Out of UK Festival Over COVID-19 Restrictions
Richard Ashcroft has informed fans that he’s pulled out of his scheduled appearance at the UK’s Tramlines Festival because of the event’s government imposed COVID-19 restrictions. Tramlines announced last week that the full-capacity event, set for July 23rd-25th would be part of England’s Events Research Programme. That means the fest will be under certain restrictions to help the UK government test the safety of returning to full-scale events.
