Luxury automaker Genesis Motor is jumpstarting the DJ booth for a night powered completely by the battery of their electric SUV, the GV60. Genesis is pulling up to power the global livestream set, which will be free to all viewers. The Korean automaker is teaming up with Grammy-nominated DJ and dance music producer Jayda G to soundtrack the night. She’ll be supported by Korean artist Didi Han. While the idea to create a full-fledged nightlife experience powered entirely by a car battery would ordinarily seem unlikely to succeed, Genesis’ GV60 is well-equipped for the effort. The vehicle’s proprietary vehicle-to-load technology allows the car to channel its energy towards powering outside devices. The car will be doing some heavy lifting, but for perspectiv...
There’s a very short list of luxury designers with songs named after them—think Jay-Z’s “Tom Ford” or Migos’ “Versace.” But a musician with a luxury product named after them? It’s almost unheard of. It’s not too elusive a club for electronic dance music legend Giorgio Moroder, however. Not only does the man known as the “Father of Disco” have a song named after him on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, but a rare supercar is his namesake as well. Someone will soon own the prized Moroder supercar for themselves after the legendary music producer opted to sell the vehicle at Sotheby’s in 2022. Sotheby’s called it “an unrepeatable opportunity for collectors.” The 1988 Cizeta-Moroder V16T was ...
A collection of “mutant vehicles” straight from the Burning Man ecosystem has sold at Sotheby’s for tens of thousands. The vehicles were part of a broader charitable sale titled “Boundless Space: The Possibilities of Burning Man.” The auction, touted as a pivotal initiative to help keep Burning Man financially afloat for the immediate future, saw three vehicles in particular fetch frothy sums between $24,000 and $40,000 each. “A Mutant Vehicle is a unique, motorized creation that either shows little or no resemblance to their original form, or to any standard street vehicle,” explains Burning Man’s website. Outside of that rule, however, there are no rules. When it comes to making a mutant vehicle, artists modify as needed...
Coachella is taking legal action against a similarly named event and car show, Carchella. The organizers of the popular California music festival claim that the automobile event is unfairly capitalizing not only on the name, but also the logos and branding. The suit also claims that Carchella’s musical elements share a significant crossover. DJ Envy, organizer of Carchella and famed radio host, has already organized two Carchella events in Atlanta and Atlantic City, with two more installments planned to be held in Detroit and Miami later this year. The Federal Government says it has facilitated the use of a tracking device to track every truck loading petroleum product from any of its depots as part of efforts to nip smuggling in the bud and arrest culprits. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, said this at a forum organised by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to gauge the achievements recorded in the oil and gas sector in the last two years. Sylva noted that a lot had been achieved in the industry but that the activities of smugglers had continued to overshadow the successes especially as it concerned fuel subsidy and the quantity of petroleum products consumed in the country. “This is one big question that we try to answer ourselves because when we look at the number of load-outs from our depots every day...
It’s no secret that deadmau5 is a lover of exotic cars. His Nyan Cat-themed “Purrari” Ferrari 458 Spider was a fan-favorite, even though Ferrari felt differently and ordered a cease and desist to get the meme wrap removed. After the drama with Ferrari, deadmau5 picked up another dream car, this time from one of the esteemed brand’s biggest rivals, McLaren. He already had his sights set on the P1 in 2014: Seven years and only 3,177 miles later, the self-proclaimed Goat Lord has put the beautiful McLaren P1 up for auction at the Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas event. One of only 375 such vehicles ever produced, deadmau5’s 2015 P1 still holds up today as a very impressive high performance hybrid vehicle. Barrett-Jackson With a mid-mounted twin-turbo 3....
Elon Musk kicked off his “Saturday Night Live” debut by declaring himself to be the first person with Asperger’s syndrome to host the US comedy sketch show. “Or at least, the first person to admit it,” he said. In his opening monologue, the eccentric tech entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX offered an explanation for some of his past eyebrow-raising behavior. “Look, I know I say or post strange things but that’s just how my brain works. To anyone I’ve offended I just want to say, I reinvented electric cars and I’m sending people to Mars in a rocket ship,” he said. “Did you think I was also going to be a chill, normal dude?” Musk has previously drawn criticism for moves like publicly mocking the US Securities and Exchange Commission and calling a cave diver who rescued boys trapped in Thai...
