ASUU: Reopening of universities a pandora box to another wave of virus
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU), Nsukka Zone on Friday warned that plans to reopen universities now are a Pandora box to the second wave of COVID-19. The Zonal Coordinator, Dr Igbana Ajir, who stated this during a press conference held at Chateau De Victoria Hotel, Makurdi also debunked the belief in some quarters that ASUU embarked on strike as a result of Integrated Payroll and Personal Information. Dr Ajir said that following the guidelines established by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19, the government should address adequate hostel accommodation, availability of physical facilities to enable social distancing in large and crowded classrooms, running water, steady source of power, testing and isolation centres. WASCE commences examination in 521 centres in Nasarawa
West Africa School Certificate Examination WASCE commenced examinations for the final year students in 521 centres in Nasarawa with adequate arrangements in accordance with the Covid-19 pandemic protocols. The State Commissioner of Education, Fati Sabo, while monitoring the conduct of the examination in some public and private centres in the state to ascertain the level of compliance said a total of 521 centres were created for the Senior Secondary school Certificate Examination in the State. In the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir Sallah celebration, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has on Friday pardoned 29 inmates with minor offences across the custodial centres of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NSC, in the state. Speaking during a brief ceremony to set the inmates free, Governor Ganduje said the inmates were pardoned in accordance with directives of President Muhammadu Buhari to state governments to decongest the custodial centres and also ensure compliance to protocols of covid-19. Nigerian government activates all FCT public hospitals for coronavirus sample collection
The Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH), has said that all government hospitals in FCT would become COVID-19 sample collection sites so that walk-in cases could have samples taken for testing. The Minister of Health, Mr Osagie Ehanire, who announced this during the PTF briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said that the move was geared towards scaling up the number of daily tests conducted in the country daily. “This assures users and caregivers of reduced bottlenecks and improved efficiency in our response. We intend to scale this up to other states of the federation,” he said. Katsina to build 722-bed capacity isolation centres
The Katsina State government has said it is building isolation centres, with a combined 722-bed capacity, across the state for effective treatment of COVID-19 patients. Governor Aminu Masari announced this when he received three ambulances, donated by BUA Foundation to the state, on Thursday in Katsina. “On our own, we are building isolation centres at various locations across the state, with a combined 722-bed capacity, for treatment of COVID-19 patients. “We have finished one of the centres and admission has started there. NIDO flays Nigerian government’s directive on payment of N297,600 by stranded nationals in Thailand
Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO), Thailand, has described the directive by the federal government that stranded Nigerians in Thailand must pay the sum of N297,600 for their quarantine, isolation, accommodation centres or hotels before their departure as insensitive and harsh. Gombe discharges 20 coronavirus patients after testing negative
Gombe State has discharged 20 COVID-19 patients out of 109 cases in isolation centres across the state after they tested negative twice. Prof. Idris Mohammed the Chairman of the State Task Force on COVID-19, made the disclosure at a news briefing on Friday in Gombe.
