20 OOUTH staff, family of four test positive for coronavirus
Tension has enveloped the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, in Ogun State as no fewer than 20 medical laboratory staff of the hospital and another family of four have contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The family of four was said to have contracted the viral disease from their father who happened to be one of the staff working in the hospital’s main laboratory. The Commissioner for Health, Kwara, Dr Raji Razaq, has urged students to adopt Physiotherapy as a career choice. Newsmen reports that Physiotherapy is a science-based profession that deals with helping to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. Coronavirus may reach peak in Lagos by August – commissioner
The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, said on Thursday that the state may experience the peak of coronavirus by August. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Abayomi said that the COVID-19 prediction model of the state holds that the pandemic will soon reach its peak, followed by the flattening of the curve and a gradual decline in the number of cases. “We believe that in the next week or two, we are going to see an increase in both the private sector testing and public laboratory testing. “We are still seeing a gentle increase in the number of cases overtime cumulatively. Osun SSG, 21 others recover from coronavirus
Mr Wole Oyebamiji, Secretary to Osun State Government (SSG), who was earlier tested positive to Coronavirus, has recovered from the virus. Dr Rafiu Isamotu, the state Commissioner for Health, said in a statement in Osogbo on Saturday that the SSG and 21 other patients had also tested negative to the virus. Newsmen report that the state commissioner for health had on July 1 announced that the SSG and some of his staff had tested positive to the virus. Private labs take over coronavirus testing in Lagos
Lagos State Government has announced the take over of COVID-19 testing by a consortium of health professionals and private laboratories. Commissioner for Health Prof Akin Abayomi, who made the disclosure during a press conference today at Alausa, Ikeja, added that that test for the novel coronavirus disease remains free of charge at various government centres. While putting the cost of the test at government facilities at between N40,000 and N50,400, Abayomi said the inclusion of the private consortium in the testing infrastructure was part of the moves to expand the state government’s COVID-19 response capacity. Osun State Government on Friday confirmed the discovery of 22 new COVID-19 cases in the state. Coming barely 24 hours after the discovery of 17 cases, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, noted that government might be forced to impose another lockdown on the state if residents and citizens continued to flout the lockdown relaxation guidelines. Akwa Ibom discharges two coronavirus patients
The Akwa Ibom State Government has discharged two of the 29 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment from its medical facilities. The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, who announced this on Saturday said those discharged have been certified negative by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, bringing to 16, the total of those treated and discharged of the viral infection since the first set of cases were recorded on April 1, 2020. Ogun: Coronavirus has spread to 16 of our 20 local councils
Ogun State Government on Monday said COVID-19 had spread to 16 out of 20 local government areas of the state. The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Tomi Coker, who disclosed in an interview with newsmen, said only four local government were free of COVID-19 in the state as of Monday afternoon. Coker, who mentioned three out of four councils that were free of the virus, said she did not remember the fourth one.
