Norwich City set to appoint Dean Smith as new manager

Norwich City are set to name Dean Smith as their new manager, according to the Guardian.  It is said that the 50-year-old has reached an agreement with the Canaries to take over at Carrow Road.  The Premier League outfit sacked Daniel Farke this month after he led the Yellows to a terrible 2021-22 season start.  The Norfolk based side are currently at the bottom of the league table, securing only five points from 11 matches.  Smith, who is set to pen a two and a half year deal, now has a huge task to help Norwich survive in the English top-flight.   The 50-year-old lost his job at Aston Villa earlier this month after he failed to deliver results at the Lions.  The Birmingham based side lost five consecutive league matches under the English boss to drop do...

Frank Lampard favourite to become next manager at Norwich City

Norwich City are getting closer to appointing Frank Lampard as their next manager.  According to the Guardian, the 43-year-old is a top candidate for the job at Carrow Road and was interviewed on Thursday.  The former England international has been without a job since he was sacked by Chelsea last January.  The English boss began his coaching career at Derby County in 2018. He led the Championship side to the play-offs final in 2019 but ultimately missed out on promotion after their defeat to Aston Villa.  Lampard was named as the manager of Chelsea in the summer of 2019. He did well in his first season at Stamford Bridge and secured a fourth spot in the Premier League for the Blues.  However, he failed to deliver results the following season despite the club’s hea...

Norwich City want to interview Dean Smith to replace Farke

Aston Villa sacked Dean Smith on Sunday after he led the English side to a disappointing 2021-22 season start.  However, the 50-year-old is now being linked with Norwich City who dismissed Daniel Farke as their manager last weekend despite a 2-1 victory at Brentford.  According to a report from The Telegraph, the Canaries are considering the former Brentford manager for the important role at Carrow Road and want to interview him.   It is said that Frank Lampard is also being considered to replace Farke at Norwich.   The former star midfielder has been without a job since Chelsea sacked him in January.  Despite heavy investments in the transfer window, Lampard failed to deliver results at Stamford Bridge last season, and so he was ultimately dismissed.&nbs...

Norwich City dismiss Daniel Farke as manager despite victory at Brentford

Norwich City have sacked Daniel Farke as their manager, despite winning Saturday’s league match against Brentford. The German football expert was under huge pressure after his side made a terrible start to the 2021-22 season. They lost their initial six league matches to remain in the relegation zone from the beginning of the campaign.  The 45-year-old led the Yellows to two draws against Burnley and Brighton in October.  However, the subsequent 7-0 thrashing at Chelsea and the 2-1 home defeat against Leeds United left them without a single league win.  That changed on Saturday when Mathias Normann and Teemu Pukki scored to claim a 2-1 victory against Brentford.  However, the German manager was still sacked from his position at Carrow Road just hours after the league wi...

Chelsea boss raves about Mason Mount after 7-0 Norwich victory

Chelsea claimed a dominating 7-0 victory over Daniel Farke’s Norwich City at Stamford Bridge this Saturday.  Thomas Tuchel’s side were missing key players Romelu Lukaku, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner in the home encounter.  However, they still managed an emphatic victory over the Canaries to maintain their top position in the league table.  The standout performer for the Blues was Mason Mount who bagged his first Premier League hat-trick.  The 22-year-old was still looking for his first goal this season when he entered this contest at Stamford Bridge.  However, the England international broke his goal duck with a fierce drive within the first eight minutes of the match.  He added two more late goals to complete his hat-trick and secure an emphatic victory ...

Norwich City seal Championship title finally at Carrow Road

Norwich City have clinched the Championship title on Saturday after coming from behind to defeat Reading 4-1 at Carrow Road. Daniel Farke’s dominant side had already sealed an immediate return to the Premier League with five matches to spare on April 17 and are now celebrating winning the second division for the second time in only three seasons. The trophy was guaranteed on Saturday as Kieran Dowell’s brace, a Xavi Quintilla free-kick and Teemu Pukki’s 26th goal of the campaign saw Norwich fight back from Josh Laurent’s early header to thump out-of-form Reading. The Canaries would have actually wrapped up the title on Saturday regardless of their own result after fellow promoted side Watford were beaten 2-0 at play-off hopefuls Brentford. At the other end of the table, the relegation batt...

Another Premier League player tests positive for novel coronavirus

A third first-team player from Brighton & Hove Albion tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, the Premier League club’s chief executive Paul Barber has confirmed. Two Brighton players had contracted the novel coronavirus in March and April and the latest positive result could cast doubts on the Premier League’s plans to resume the season that has been suspended due to the pandemic. Clubs are due to meet on Monday to further discuss “Project Restart” which envisages a return to play in June once given the green light from government, with the remaining 92 matches held behind closed doors at neutral venues. “It is a concern. Unfortunately we’ve had a third player test positive yesterday,” Barber told Sky Sports on Sunday. “So despite all of the measures that we’ve been taking over the ...
