So Here’s the Only Way I’ll Wear My Jeans This Year

There’s no question about it—denim is the big trend of 2021. From the rise of heritage brands to a backlash against skinny jeans (sorry, but baggy and looser fits are where it’s at), there’s a whole new world of denim-related ideas to get acquainted with. Over the past few weeks we’ve seen a sharp increase in denim items infiltrating the new-in sections of our favourite affordable retailers, and even the most high-brow of high fashion houses are betting on this humble textile for the season ahead. My Instagram feed is full of the stuff, and it’s come to give last year’s loungewear a run for its money. It seems counterintuitive that during a time where we’ve all been seeking comfort from our clothes ...

These Controversial ’90s Jeans Are Back, But Are You Ready for Them?

When it comes to trends, none ever prove quite so divisive as jeans. This probably stems from the fact that people are very particular about the jeans they wear—the cut, the length, the colour—so the subject is always going to spark debate. In the past, frayed hems split the fashion industry in two, while, if you cast your mind back to the early Noughties, you’ll remember that many of us were aghast at the mere thought of skinny jeans. In this instance, then, we must warn you that we’re about to discuss another topical jeans trend, which is making a return in 2021; bootcut jeans.  You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be. It begins with giving you back power. Get to meet Beautiful people, chat and m...

Denim Will Be the Big Trend of 2021—Here’s Why

To understand the denim landscape of 2021, the first port of call has to be with trends. And where better to start that with the brand that’s synonymous with denim—Levi’s. I spoke to Jill Guenza, VP of women’s design at the iconic label, who revealed that the biggest trends are “‘90s nostalgia and ‘70s earthiness”. This is echoed across luxury and high-street retailers. I’d hesitate to say that skinnies are over, as we all know that no trend ever really dies it just lies in wait for the next time it becomes popular. Let’s just say, for many of us looking ahead, our skinny jeans have been lovingly put to the back of the wardrobe. So, what have we put in their place? Net-a-Porter tells me that the balloon leg is popular right now, as are jeans that have more stretch, due to many people ...

This High Street Brand Just Made Jeans Shopping A Lot More Bearable

Denim is undoubtedly the failsafe in most of our wardrobes. The humble pair of jeans is endlessly reliable, taking us from day to evening and everything in between, and all too often coming to the rescue when the dreaded ‘I have NOTHING to wear’ scenario hits. When you find that perfect pair to throw on with your favourite layers, they instantly become an indispensable part of your go-to roster of outfits.  The search for that perfect style though, can be difficult. With so many different labels, price points, shapes and fits these days, it’s tough to even know where to start. Especially when doing it all online. Well, let us help. If you’re looking to the high street for your denim, be sure to turn to Oasis. Following the brand’s recent relaunch, the denim offering has also had a revamp w...

I Love Jeans, and Have Saved These 21 Denim Outfits to Copy In 2021

Despite my very best efforts, I have fallen into a rut when it comes to getting dressed for working from home. I currently alternate between two pairs of jeans, and three jumpers, but am now itching to switch things up and find some new ways to style my denim staples. I’m not talking about anything radical here, as I’ll still be sat in my living room—but little styling tweaks that might help me fall in love with my jeans again. Below I’ve found 21 styling ideas that I plan on copying (again and again) in 2021, and many revolve around basics like breton tees, polo tops, Oxford shirts and knitted vests.  Earlier this month my colleague Elinor wrote about the key new denim trends for 2021, speaking to denim experts from both 7 For All Mankind and & Other S...

Over 140 Years On, These Jeans Are Still the Coolest

Although the emergence of youth culture propelled the brand to become popular in the mid 1900s, by the mid ’80s, it was struggling, and sales started to decline. However, Levi’s enlisted the help of advertisers John Hegarty and Barbara Noakes, who created the famous 1985 launderette ad to appeal to the MTV crowd. According to WGSN, the reasoning behind the ’50s-themed advert, in which a man strips off down to his boxers in order to wash his shrink-to-fit 501 jeans, was because the teenage demographic was obsessed with retro Americana. By the end of the ’90s, Levi’s hit a peak with sales at £6.2 billion thanks to its youth-orientated ad campaigns, including this one featuring a then-unknown Brad Pitt. We Called This Non-Skinny Jeans Trend Ages Ago and, Well, We Were Right

If you read Who What Wear on the reg, you’d know that we tend to make a lot of trend predictions. Based on what we saw coming down the runways, infiltrating Instagram, and landing at our favourite retailers, we called out the next big non-skinny jean trend when it was first bubbling up. Well, that was at the start of last year and cut to the present-day where the denim trend in question—high-rise wide-leg jeans–have fully taken over the fashion scene. I’ll just say it: we were right. If you don’t already know what we’re talking about, these full-length jeans are defined by a trouser-like wide leg and a waist-cinching high rise. We know that wide-leg jeans can be intimidating if you’re used to wearing more fitted sty...

H&M and ’90s Jeans Brand Lee Launch a Denim Collection That’s Sustainable and Size-Inclusive

H&M is collaborating with classic American denim brand Lee on a sustainable, size-inclusive collection that’s fit for the entire family. Lee X H&M is the Swedish brand’s first denim range made from 100-percent recycled cotton jeans, and the water, CO2, and energy details of the collection will be available on the brand website. “We just loved working with Lee to push for change,” said H&M designer Jon Loman in a press statement. “A change for more sustainable and circular denim garments. My All-Time Favourite Dress Trend Is Back for Another Year

My love for denim dresses started back in 2009 thanks to Stella McCartney’s S/S 10 collection. The British designer had created a button-down summer dress in a light-wash jean fabric and a skirt in the same finish and waist-nipping fit. I fell for them both—hard. I was just starting out as a fashion assistant and had a chance to wear a sample of the skirt for a shoot, but alas, it was a fleeting moment, and I could not afford to keep it in my wardrobe. I Think These 3 Types of Shoes Always Look Amazing With Jeans

If you’ve read our spring summer 2021 trend report you’ll know that this year our jeans are going to get a little looser, and have a silhouette more like the jogging bottoms that many of us have been living in at home. Denim was a category that has been increasing in demand (Matchesfashion saw a 50% growth in jeans sales in 2020), however there has been a move away from skinny silhouettes to more relaxed, slouchy fits. We saw more denim in the main runway collections for spring summer 2021 than usual, with the likes of Chloé and Balenciaga showing baggy jeans with a high waistband and slouchy trouser leg.  You won’t struggle to find options to choose from either, as baggy jeans are now taking over new-in sections and you’ll find so many amazing second...

Here’s How French Girls Are Wearing the Anti–Skinny Jean Trend

We here at Who What Wear like to talk in great detail (and with much passion!) about our jeans. They are one of the hardest-working items in our wardrobes, after all. We’ve already touched upon the biggest jean trends we’ll all be wearing in 2021—including ’90s baggy styles, cross-over waistbands and, of course, with wider-leg styles coming back in general, it only makes sense that flares have returned. Yes, friends, the ’70s silhouette is back, and we’ve already spotted them on a host of street style leaders (back in September last year, when Fashion Week was still happening) as well as on celebrities such as Katie Holmes. Thanks to designers such as Balmain, Victoria Beckham and Ulla Johnson, leg-lengthening flares are set to be a staple part o...
