Source: Paras Griffin / Getty Are OG golden era Hip-Hop heads ready to revisit the infamous Bad Boy vs. Death Row era of the 90s? Swizz Beatz and Timbaland certainly wouldn’t mind doing so. After successfully getting rivals Jeezy and Gucci Mane to be in the same room together for a spectacular Verzuz battle a few weeks back, Timbo and Swizz aren’t completely dismissing the possibility of a Dr. Dre Verzuz Puff Daddy event that would totally break the internet. Speaking to TMZ about their smash IG series, Charles Latibeaudiere asked the show’s founders about pitting Dr. Dre’s catalogue against P. Diddy’s and though that’s not currently in their plans, Swizz basically said never say never. After initially shooting down Harvey Levin’s idea of a Jay-Z Verzuz Diddy outing (we want Jay-Z Verzuz N...
As part of our 35th anniversary, we’re naming the most influential artists of the past 35 years. Today, we’re at #13. From Compton, California, here is Dr. Dre. Credit: Raymond Boyd / Contributor Dr. Dre had predecessors and peers, but he’s the sonic architect of West Coast rap: Integral to its inception, he shaped and then reimagined the contours of its sound. His influence extends from the ‘80s to the unlikely day that people stop playing “Nuthin But a G Thang” and “California Love.” In the mid-’80s, Dre was “in surgery” at Compton roller rinks, cutting records for electro-rap paragons World Class Wreckin’ Cru. After ditching the shiny suits, he donned all black with N.W.A. and dropped Straight Outta Compton, bringing L.A. gangsta rap to the masses. Dre (and DJ Yella and Arabian Prince)...
Source: Paul Archuleta / Getty It’s beginning to look like Dr. Dre‘s divorce proceedings with his estranged wife, Nicole Young, are going to be taking a lot longer than originally thought. The Hip-Hop icon’s soon to be ex-wife wants to get a close-up look at his “iron clad” prenuptial agreement. TMZ is reporting after all the back-and-forth about what Dr. Dre should pay and what she’s entitled to, Nicole Young has filed legal doc demanding the Chronic rapper hand over the original “ironclad prenup” so she can take a look at what was originally agreed to. Wait, now she asks for those papers?! Apparently Dr. Dre has been fronting on providing her legal team with a copy of the original prenup this whole time and is taking legal action to ensure they get a copy before agreeing to officially go...
Source: WENN/Avalon / WENN Dr. Dre‘s divorce lawyers are getting some nice holiday gifts. A judge has nixed Nicole Young’s request that the Compton producer pay her $1.5M for expenses that include security. Apparently, Nicole Young has been receiving death threats (which absolutely no one should condone). The news about Dre not having to pay up (for now, since his estranged wife is still seeking $5M) came yesterday (Oct. 1). Reports TMZ: Nicole’s lawyers were in court this morning, telling the judge Nicole needs the $1.5 million for security because she’s been receiving death threats. The money would also go for other expenses. Some of the people commenting on the divorce have said things like, “If she dies, she dies,” and “For a small fee she can disappear.” The judge rejected her claim, ...
Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN Dr. Dre is finally speaking out about his estranged wife’s alimony claim filed with the courts. According to TMZ, Dr. Dre is calling the petitioned request by his soon to be ex-wife, Nicole Young, for $2 million a month in spousal support “absurd”, noting that the requested amount is unnecessary when is already currently footing the bill for her current lifestyle and their divorce; adding that, according to the legal documents, her lawyers have already made more money off the 2-month old divorce than most Los Angeles residents make in a year. In addition to footing the bill for the divorce proceedings, Dr. Dre and his legal team also note that Ms. Young is also staying in a Malibu mansion owned by the legendary producer, in addition to his security team b...
Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz The divorce proceedings between Dr. Dre and his soon to be ex-wife are uncovering some serious dirt. She has apparently left a paper trail of pilfering from the piggy bank. As spotted on TMZ Nicole Young’s reputation is now being put to the test. Last week the iconic producer’s attorney Larry Chatman provided proof that she had allegedly helped herself to a big bag to the tally of $353,571.85. According to a formal letter written by the lawyer she wrote herself a check from his Record One Studio’s bank account back in 2015. Even though she had been appointed as a trustee and signatory for the account he claims the transaction was not authorized and called the move embezzlement. Furthermore he demanded that she return the monies or that a fo...
Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN Dr. Dre‘s divorce from his estranged wife, Nicole Young, is only getting uglier. According to Young, the Hip-Hop producer “expelled” her from their home and has been hiding assets so she can’t get her hands on all the money she is seeking. According to court docs, Dre kicked his wife out and soon started moving money around. Per the New York Daily News: Dre — born Andre Romelle Young — “forced” Nicole to leave their home April 2 “after a night of Andre’s alcohol induced, brutal rage” which included him telling his wife of 24-years to “get the f–k out,” the filing states. It says Dre then “secretly” transferred his highly valuable “Dr. Dre” and “The Chronic” trademarks to a “new entity” on April 27, thereby denying her “equal ownership” after “years of dominati...
Source: Karwai Tang / Getty Social media was taken aback when news broke that Dr. Dre’s soon to be ex-wife, Nicole Young was demanding $2 million a month in spousal support as, well, that’s kind of OD, but when you get accustomed to a life of luxury, what can you expect? And though the D.R.E is holding onto his pre-nuptial agreement like it’s a sample that no one’s thought to use on a record, Nicole isn’t going let the doc off the hook that easy. After having skipped a few previously scheduled depositions, TMZ is reporting thatYoung has filed new legal documents asking the courts to have Dr. Dre sit down for a 21-hour deposition in which her lawyers will use 8 hours to grill Dre on the validity of the couple’s pre-nup and another 13 hours on financial issues. She is not playing with h...
Source: Karwai Tang / Getty Dr. Dre‘s wife may be on her way out of the legendary producer’s love life, but she’s not going without hitting him where it hurts. According to TMZ, Nicole Young filed legal documents asking the court for temporary spousal support from Dre at a whopping $2 million a month. Court docs show that Nicole is petitioning for $1,936,399 monthly in temporary spousal support, including an additional request for $5 million in lawyer fees, despite filing for divorce only two months ago. The documents also note that the amount requested is so she “can continue to enjoy the lifestyle she enjoyed during the marriage,” and requests the spousal support to begin retroactively from Sept. 1. The court documents go onto claim that while Young does not work, she was an im...
