Two of the world’s most innovative producers are introducing a new generation to the sounds of rave music’s past. In the early days of summer, G Jones and EPROM joined forces for their Acid Disk 2 EP. The long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s namesake, the record plunged fans headlong into a spiral of retro, acid-inspired sounds. Now, they’ve put their minds together to create Disk Doctors, a new collaborative mixtape. Featuring loads of distorted synths and ingenious samples, the tape weaves between genres in an ode to 90’s rave music. Drake will perform a special concert at the iconic Apollo Theater in New York’s Harlem neighborhood on November 11. The show, which will be broadcast on SiriusXM, marks Drizzy’s inaugural performance at the legendary venue. The Toronto artist made the announcement on Instagram with a black and white concert poster, revealing that fans can enter to win tickets to the show by scanning the QR code on SiriusXM’s website. There, interested fans will have until 11 p.m. ET on October 26 to tune into SiriusXM’s Sound 42 to score tickets. Depeche Mode has announced the long-awaited follow-up to 2017’s Spirit. The new record, Memento Mori, will be released through Columbia Records sometime next spring. Memento Mori will mark the English electronic band’s first release since the death of founding member and keyboard player, Andy “Fletch” Fletcher, who passed away in May at the age of 60. “We started work on this project early in the pandemic, and its themes were directly inspired by that time,” Martin Gore said. “After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.” Fletch would have loved this album. Country music icon Loretta Lynn has died, her family said in a statement. “Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said. A cause of death was not announced. Lynn was 90 years old. Lynn had been hospitalized in 2017 in the wake of recovery setbacks after a stroke that year. Following the stroke, the legendary singer-songwriter postponed the release of a new album, Wouldn’t It Be Great. She recovered and the album was eventually released in 2018, which she followed with 2021’s Still Woman Enough. Country music legend Loretta Lynn passed away today, Oct. 4 at age 90. The beloved artist died in her sleep from natural causes at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. Lynn, who was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983, followed by her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2008, was born April 14, 1932, in Butcher Holler, Ky., and blazed a trail for myriad successful female artists on Billboard‘s country charts and beyond.
