Family Of Slain Maryland Rapper 23 Rackz Speak Out Against Gun Violence

Now, the family of the teenager is speaking out against the rampant gun violence ravaging the Washington Metropolitan region. Local outlet Fox 5 News initially reported on the shooting death of 23 Rackz, real name Justin Johnson of Temple Hills, Md.  Temple Hills is just outside of the Washington, D.C. city limits. Rackz was killed last month (May 26) in the southeast section of D.C. DJ Akademiks memorialized Rackz via an Instagram, explaining he had the teen out at a local showcase. Dave Smith, the Sequential founder and synthmaker known as the father of MIDI, has died, Sequential said. He was 72. Artists including Flying Lotus, Hot Chip, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon paid tribute to Smith, whose inventions include the Prophet-5, used by a raft of 1980s greats, as well as by Radiohead for their diversion into electronics on Kid A. Born in California, Smith founded Sequential in his mid-twenties, in 1974, and designed and released the Prophet-5 four years later. It was the world’s first fully programmable polyphonic synth, and the first instrument with an embedded microprocessor. Young Thug Denied Bond, Judge Cites Potential Danger to the Community and Witnesses

On May 9, Young Thug was arrested on charges of participation in street gang activity and conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Today (June 2), the rapper was denied bond by Judge Ural D. Glanville following a seven-plus hour bond hearing in Atlanta, as Variety and The New York Times’ Joe Coscarelli report.
