Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite has announced a memoir. Spaceships Over Glasgow: Mogwai and Misspent Youth is out September 1 via White Rabbit. The book covers his time in Mogwai, his early love for bands like Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, and Jesus and Mary Chain, and his formative live encounters with Nirvana and the Cure. Its title is a lyric from 2001’s “Take Me Somewhere Nice.” “I am immensely proud to be working with White Rabbit on my first book Spaceships Over Glasgow,” Braithwaite said in a statement. “The process of researching it and writing it has been challenging but one that I’ve really enjoyed. It’s incredibly exciting to be able to share it with the world.” He added on Twitter that the book was about his “teenage idiocy, life in general, gigs and playing in Mogwai.”
KeiyaA has returned with a new song that’s set to appear on the new compilation Soon Come from Errol and Alex Rita’s south London–based music incubator Touching Bass. Faye Webster has shared the video for her new song “Car Therapy.” Directed by Sean Valdivieso and edited by hbaCreate, it shows the process of recording at Spacebomb Studios with a Trey Pollard–led orchestra for an orchestral EP. Today, the inaugural Harlem Festival of Culture has been announced. The event was inspired by Questlove’s award–winning documentary Summer of Soul (…Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised), which centered on the long-forgotten Harlem Cultural Festival of 1969. The reimagined festival will take place in the summer of 2023 at the same location as the original event: Marcus Garvey Park, formerly known as Mount Morris Park. Exact dates have not been revealed, however the lead-up to the event will consist of a series of live entertainment and social and economic development programs, culminating with a multi-day outdoor music festival, according to press materials. Rick Springfield’s long-overdue homecoming reunion tour with Zoot has been scrapped. “It is with much sadness and disappointment that we must announce that the Zoot tour of Australia is cancelled,” reads a statement issued Wednesday (April 13) from DRW Entertainment, producer of the multi-city trek. “Much has changed in the two years since we announced the tour, and individual members of the band, whilst excited about the potential offered by the tour, are now unfortunately not in a position whereby they can move forward with the tour as scheduled,” the message continues. The reunion dates were scheduled to visit Brisbane, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne this October, for Zoot’s first Australian shows in over 50 years.
