The Smashing Pumpkins Share New Songs “Anno Satana” and “Birch Grove”: Stream

The Smashing Pumpkins will drop their new double album, CYR, on November 27th via Sumerian Records. Already, we’ve heard the stellar title track, “The Colour of Your Love”, “Confessions of a Dopamine Addict”, and “Wrath”. Now, they’re back with two more cuts to add to the pile: “Anno Satana” and “Birch Grove”. Fans hoping Billy Corgan might continue itching that new wave side of his can drown in the thunderous “Anno Satana”. The same could be said for “Birch Grove”, which finds the singer-songwriter slowing things down for a glacial bath of synths. Both bode well for the new album and demand re-listens. Stream both tracks below. As you’ll see, “Anno Satana” doubles as both a new music video and yet also the latest episode for Corgan’s new animated series In Ashes. If you recall, the f...

Stevie Nicks Releases New Solo Song “Show Them The Way” Featuring Dave Grohl: Stream

Stevie Nicks has just released her first new solo song in nearly a decade. It’s called “Show Them The Way” and features Dave Grohl on drums. A music video helmed by renowned director Cameron Crowe is due out later today; in the meantime, you can stream the audio below. The Fleetwood Mac icon previously said she was inspired to write “Show Them The Way” when revisiting an old dream. One night right before the 2008 election, Nicks fell asleep and imagined herself in the company of a variety of notable politicians and activists, including Martin Luther King Jr., John F. Kennedy, John Lewis, and Bobby Kennedy. It’s stuck with her ever since, and she decided to tap into the sentiment of that imagined memory for the song, which was produced by Greg Kurstin (Sia, Adele, Beck)....

Greta Van Fleet Return with Surprise New Song “My Way, Soon”: Stream

After a whirlwind start to their career, it’s been a quiet 2020 for Greta Van Fleet. Of course, the pandemic has a lot to do with that, but the rock sensations are back with a surprise new song, “My Way, Soon”. It’s been two years since Greta Van Fleet released their debut album, 2018’s Anthem of the Peaceful Army. Before that, the band exploded onto the rock scene with a pair of 2017 EPs. Starting with “Highway Tune”, the young rockers scored four straight No. 1 hits on the Mainstream Rock chart, and would go on to play sold-out shows across the world. Roughly a year ago, Greta Van Fleet released the new song “Always There” from the soundtrack to the movie A Million Little Pieces. “My Way, Soon” marks the band’s first new music since then. “My Way, Soon” continues Greta Van Fleet’s throwb...

Clairo Covers The Strokes’ “I’ll Try Anything Once”: Stream

Clairo has shared a cover of The Strokes’ 2006 B-side “I’ll Try Anything Once”. For her lo-fi rendition, the bedroom pop artist is joined by Jake Passmore of the London-based indie band SCORS. “I’ll Try Anything Once” is technically a demo version of “You Only Live Once”, a Strokes standout from their 2005 album First Impressions of Earth. Both songs are fan-favorites for different reasons: “You Only Live Once” is an upbeat anthem and a long-time live staple, whereas its acoustic predecessor is beloved for being a Strokes song that’s actually vulnerable and pretty. Clairo and Passmore both fully lean into the melancholy characteristics of “I’ll Try Anything Once”, while also giving it their own unique touch. The production quality is extremely muddy and raw, but their voices — Clairo’s hig...

Pixar’s Soul to Skip Theaters for Exclusive Disney+ Release This Christmas

Disney has decided to skip a theatrical release for the Pixar film Soul, instead releasing it straight to Disney+ — at no additional cost. Originally scheduled for a June 19th release, the movie was delayed until November 20th due to the pandemic. As of Disney’s last round of schedule shifting, Soul still had that release date. However, since then, Regal Cinemas announced it would re-close all its theaters, and Universal moved its animated sequel The Croods: A New Age up from December 23rd to November. It seems the lack of domestic theater options and the new competition for screens led to Disney’s decision to push Soul to a digital debut on Christmas, December 25th. What’s interesting, however, is that the movie will be free for all Disney+ subscribers. That’s a stark contrast to the othe...

Macaulay Culkin Wears His Own Face With Incredible Home Alone Mask

We’ve seen plenty of celebrity step up and ask (plead with?) people to wear their face masks. Stevie Nicks wrote a message on her public journal, Motörhead made their own Lemmy masks, and Paul Rudd teamed with New York state for a hilarious video targeting millennial. But Macaulay Culkin has created what is either the best or creepiest PSA by donning a face mask featuring his own visage from Home Alone. In a post that broke the Internet, Culkin shared a photo of himself wearing… well, himself. The mask features an enlarged image from the Home Alone poster, itself a reference to the iconic scene where Kevin McCallister learns about the pains of aftershave. True, given the thirty-year age difference between Culkin now and when he played the character, the proportions are kind of terrifying, ...

Aaron Sorkin Wants a Sequel to The Social Network, but Only if David Fincher Directs

The Social Network celebrated its 10th anniversary last week, and it looks like it’s not just the fans who are feeling nostalgic over it. During a recent interview on the Happy.Sad.Confused podcast, screenwriter Aaron Sorkin said he wants to pen a sequel to The Social Network, but only if David Fincher returns to direct. Last year, Sorkin revealed that he was considering a follow-up to his Oscar-winning screenplay for The Social Network. In the decade since the original film’s release, Facebook’s saga has entered an entirely new level of controversy stemming from Russia’s interference in the 2020 election, its unwillingness to police fake stories, and its safe-guarding of hate groups who use Facebook to spew their rhetoric and plan attacks. Speaking with Happy.Sad.Confu...
