Four Tet Remixes Tame Impala’s “Is It True”: Stream

In addition to mastering his own original creations, Four Tet knows how to transform a simple remix into something magically refreshing. We’ve heard Kieran Hebden do this for years, reworking everyone from Destiny’s Child and Rihanna to Radiohead and Lana Del Rey. (My personal favorite would be his take on The xx’s “A Violent Noise.) Four Tet has now turned his attention to Tame Impala and The Slow Rush single “Is It True”. Over the course of five minutes, the British producer manages to draw listeners further into Kevin Parker’s world. Here the swirls of psychedelia stretch on a little longer, their pulses slowed down a bit for maximum blissed out daydreaming. Stream Four Tet’s “Is It True” remix down below. Editors’ Picks Four Tet released a new album earlier this year titled ...

The Killers Perform “Blowback” on Colbert: Watch

Today, August 21st, The Killers dropped their new album Imploding the Mirage. That made yesterday Album Release Eve, and the band celebrated with a Late Show performance of the recent single “Blowback”. The twin demands of social distancing and television lighting kept the performers rooted in place. But the Las Vegas rockers have an almost spiritual commitment to putting on a show, and they found plenty of ways to inject drama. The first was singer Brandon Flowers‘ shirt, which came covered in a whole Dollar Store’s worth of rhinestones. The Killers also placed a giant Marquee light shaped like a “K” center stage, rakishly tilted to the side and quietly winking at the cameras. And if the the flashing stage lights didn’t keep your attention, perhaps it’s because you were captured...

Coheed and Cambria Unleash “Jessie’s Girl 2” Featuring Rick Springfield: Stream

Coheed and Cambria have recorded and released a sequel to Rick Springfield’s ubiquitous 1981 hit “Jessie’s Girl”. What’s more, the song and accompanying music video feature Springfield himself. “Jessie’s Girl 2” is not a cover of the ’80s pop hit, but a brand-new song that continues Springfield’s story about losing out on the love of his life to one of his friends. It’s a left-field collaboration from the progressive rock heroes and the veteran pop idol, but Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez said he was inspired to tell the rest of Springfield’s story. Sanchez stated, “Has anyone ever written a sequel to another artist’s song? I don’t think so. As a fan of movies, it just seemed like a really interesting idea.”  While the song picks up where Springfield’s hit left off, it doesn’t have a...

John Carpenter Confirms Involvement With Blumhouse’s The Thing Reboot

For someone who doesn’t love work, John Carpenter certainly stays busy. On Saturday afternoon, the Master of Horror confirmed a number of projects while speaking with Fantasia Film Festival as he accepted their Lifetime Achievement Award. For starters, Carpenter let it slip that he’s working with Blumhouse and Universal on their forthcoming reboot of The Thing. When pressed if it was a prequel or a sequel, he played it coy and stayed mum as he’s wont to do. As previously reported, that project is reported to be a new reimagining of John W. Campbell Jr.’s Who Goes There?, only Universal and Blumhouse are also planning to pull from its recently unearthed and expanded version of the novella, Frozen Hell. Given that Carpenter is currently working with Blumhouse and Universal on their...

James Gunn Reveals Characters and First Teaser Trailer for The Suicide Squad: Watch

James Gunn has shared the first teaser trailer for The Suicide Squad and revealed new characters from the star-studded cast. The unveiling took place during DC’s virtual FanDome on Saturday. Gunn himself hosted a panel, and with a bit of pomp and ceremony he announced the villainous roles played by previously-announced actors. The big news is that Idris Elba will be inhabiting Bloodsport, a Lex Luthor associate. During a Q&A/trivia section, it was also revealed that Bloodsport in the film is spending time in jail for shooting Superman. This is the biggest plot drop from the panel, and it’s actually pulled right from the comic books. As for the rest of the Squad, a large part of it was already known, with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) Captain Boomerang (...

Zack Snyder’s Justice League Director’s Cut Revealed in First Trailer: Watch

Fans begged, pleaded, and campaigned for this, and now it’s finally here: Zack Snyder has shared the first full trailer for the Justice League Director’s Cut at Saturday’s DC Fandome virtual event. From the jump, the preview makes it clear this is very different from 2018’s Joss Whedon-re-worked theatrical Justice League. It opens with a shot of the DC Extended Universe’s biggest baddie, Darkseid, played by Ray Porter but ultimately excised from the original cut of the film. There’s also new glimpses of the film’s primary antagonist, Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), whose look has been updated as more metallic and with a less humanoid face, like he was seen in the infamous Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice deleted scene. What really stands out here is how much more fleshed out the non-Batman-a...

Robert Pattinson is The Batman in Nirvana-Soundtracked First Trailer: Watch

Warner Bros. closed out DC Fandome on Saturday night with their highly anticipated panel for Matt Reeves’ The Batman. As expected, the event saw our most comprehensive look at the forthcoming re-imagining, which stars Robert Pattinson as The Dark Knight. Gorgeously soundtracked to Nirvana’s dour “Something in the Way”, the film’s first trailer reveals a Gotham City awash in the kind of realism that once fueled Christopher Nolan’s universe. Yet unlike his trilogy, Reeves’ vision carries a more dystopian, punk rock edge that feels like a DIY deconstruction of Frank Miller’s Year One (though, according to Reeves, the story actually takes place in the second year of Bruce Wayne’s life as Batman). Story-wise, it appears there’s a creepy murder mystery that’s sending Jeffrey Wright’s Commis...

Hinds and CHAI Form a “UNITED GIRLS ROCK’N’ROLL CLUB” on New Song: Stream

Whether you think Hinds are the Spanish CHAI or CHAI or the Japanese Hinds, there’s an undeniable kinship between the bands. So even though they live in different corners of the world, it was probably only a matter of time before the two bands joined forces. Today, they’ve released their oh-so-fitting collaborative single “UNITED GIRLS ROCK’N’ROLL CLUB”. The trilingual track (Spanish, Japanese, and English) sees the eight musicians reveling in the joy of collaborating with fellow female artists. “Because we have been fans way longer than in bands,” they sing together. “And now the music has more power in our hands.” In a joint statement, the bands said, “‘UNITED GIRLS ROCK’N’ROLL CLUB’ is a song that screams GIRL POWER. You might be from different countries, different languages, but at the...

Jazz maestro Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah has announced the release of a new live album called AXIOM. Due out on August 28th, the forthcoming collection captures Adjuah’s final pre-pandemic concert at New York City’s famed Blue Note Jazz Club in March 2020.  Coming in support of his masterful 2019 album, Ancestral Recall, the performance saw Adjuah joined on-stage by a septet featuring flautist Elena Pinderhughes, saxophonist Alex Han, djembefola Weedie Braimah, pianist Lawrence Fields, bassist Kris Funn, and drummer Corey Fonville. “There’ a difference between hearing and listening,” says Adjuah in a statement. “The intention to understand is present in listening. Seraphina Simone Channels Her Inner St. Vincent on New Song “Hollywood $$$”: Stream

Seraphina Simone began writing original songs as a way to transform her childhood musical upbringing into a canvas for the inevitably life-changing experiences of adulthood. While the rising indie pop artist doesn’t have a stack of albums under her belt just yet, she does have an impressive range of influences she draws from, including Bat for Lashes, Human League, Blondie, and Lorde. On her newest single, though, Simone channels her inner St. Vincent to create the dark alt-pop hit that is “Hollywood $$$”. This is the second song Simone has released so far, following her debut single “Cherry <8”. While that track earned her digital hype via tastemaker playlists, it’s “Hollywood $$$” that sounds like a verifiable breakout hit. Perhaps its because Simone makes a sharpe critique of the ver...

Behemoth Announce Immersive In Absentia Dei Livestream Concert

Behemoth have announced a new immersive livestream event, “In Absentia Dei”. The black metal auteurs will broadcast the concert live from an undisclosed Polish church on September 5th, with special guests Imperial Triumphant performing from New York City. The show will stream in 4K high-definition with eight different camera angles to choose from — as well as a “Director’s Cut” option, ostensibly edited from the various camera angles. As per the press release, “parts of the performance may offend,” so the event is recommended for viewers 18 and up. “We bring a new offering for our faithful Legions!” Behemoth frontman Nergal declared in the press release. “You’ve seen Behemoth in many places across the globe, but never before in the Holy Church.
