Netflix Developing ‘My Hero Academia’ Live-Action Film

Following early word of a live-action adaptation, Netflix has now officially announced that it is developing a film centered around My Hero Academia. In an announcement post, the streaming platform shared that it is partnering up with Legendary Entertainment on the project. The live-action adaptation of the manga/anime will be directed and executive produced by Shinsuke Sato (Alice in Borderland) and written by Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s Joby Harold. The villain for the next two Spider-Verse films have been confirmed by director Kemp Powers. In a recent interview with Total Film, Powers confirmed that Miles Morales and company will be facing the Spot, who is brought to life by Jason Schwartzman. “The Spot is an interesting villain because he seems like a joke, but when you really look at his powers, there’s incredible potential. The success of the Spy x Family anime has given rise to a stage play adaptation in Japan. Set to debut in Tokyo on March 8, 2023, the teaser has just been released showing the key characters in costume — Loid, Yor, and Yuri have been cast while Anya is still in the works. While some live-play anime adaptations have been a miss, this one looks promising. Westworld and The Nevers, two recently-cancelled HBO series, will no longer be available to watch on HBO Max. According to reports, the removal of the shows from streaming stems from Warner Bros. Discovery’s ongoing cost-cutting measures in an attempt to secure $3.5 billion USD. This will allow the company to save money from both the cancellations and in residuals paid to the cast and crews of the shows.
