Benedict Cumberbatch recently sat down with BBC Radio 1 to discuss his titular role in Marvel‘s latest film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Sorcerer Supreme reveals that Marvel initially recruited him for a different part of the universe. He was first offered the role of the villain Malekith in the 2013 Thor sequel, The Dark World. The surgeon turned sorcerer ultimately passed on the role which later led to him becoming Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch breaks down how this happened in the interview recalling, “[The Doctor Strange role] happened as an idea muted after, funnily enough, another little dance I did for another character in the MCU, a very brief character. I was bold enough to say, ‘I’m really flattered to be invited to the party, but I’d rather hold out for somethi...
It appears that Disney+ is one step closer to eclipsing Netflix as the top streaming platform. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ has surpassed Wall Street’s performance expectations from last quarter, adding 7.9 million subscribers to its platform. Wall Street only expected Disney+ to add 4.5 to 5 million new subscribers. While the subscriber count has been up, Disney fell slightly short on the expected earnings. Disney reported revenue of $19.2 billion USD falling short of Wall Street’s $20.1 billion USD expectation. Disney also reported an income of $3.7 billion USD. After this quarter, Disney+ now has 137.7 million subscribers in total, putting them ahead of Hulu and ESPN+. Disney’s media and entertainment distribution division also saw growth reporting a 9% increase in reven...

On May 6, as many Marvel fans got to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for the first time, director James Gunn announced that filming for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had officially wrapped. The decade-long journey had the production and cast feeling emotional as it would be both James Gunn’s last film ever and Dave Bautista‘s last time playing Drax the Destroyer. “Haven’t found the words yet,” Dave Bautista wrote on social media. “It ended so suddenly and I was on to my next film before I could process it all. End of a journey that changed my life.” “You know, the journey’s come full circle and I’m ready to kind of step aside and wrap it up. I didn’t think my leaving was going to be news because I figured everybody assumed it,” Bautista told Ellen Degeneres last summer. “T...

Just as Netflix decides to introduce ad-supported subscriptions to its streaming service, competitor Disney+ has now also confirmed that its own ad-supported tiers will be arriving in the U.S. later this year. Plans for cheaper subscription plans supported by ads were first announced by Disney+ back in March, and the service implied that it’d be available stateside before the end of 2022. Now, Disney has confirmed the timeframe during its latest earnings call. On Wednesday morning, CEO Bob Chapek says that the ad-supported tear will arrive before the year closes in the U.S., with international availability following in 2023. He emphasized that “expanding Disney+ access to multiple price points is a win for consumers and advertisers.” “Since its launch, advertisers have been clamoring for t...
Josh Brolin has finally revealed his own reaction to his character Gurney Halleck’s odd and sudden exit from Dune, and confirmed that he’ll be returning for the sequel. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview, Brolin said he was just as surprised about Gurney’s sudden disappearance as many other viewers. “When I watched it, I was like, ‘Where did I go?’ I think that was the first reaction. ‘That’s it?’ But that was all selfish.” He went on to explain that it took him some time to understand why his character was sent off that way, but that he trusts director Denis Villeneuve‘s creative process. “I can’t answer that. I don’t know. I mean, I think the book suggests that, but the book suggests a lot of things,” Brolin continued. “The book suggests his singing, and...
Elizabeth Olsen has responded to the criticism made about Marvel films, stating that the comments speak badly of the crew more than anything. In a recent interview with The Independent, the actress, who reprises her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, shared that the crew who work on Marvel movies are also the same people who work on award-winning films. “I’m not saying we’re making indie art films, but I just think it takes away from our crew, which bugs me,” Olsen said. “These are some of the most amazing set designers, costume designers, camera operators – I feel diminishing them with that kind of criticism takes away from all the people who do award-winning films, that also work on these projects.” She added that from the perspective of ...
Amazon Studios is reportedly ending the John Krasinski-starring Jack Ryan series after season four. While the storyline to the franchise is not coming to an end, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan seems to be moving forward with another character headlined by Michael Peña. According to Deadline, sources have told the publication that Krasinski had only signed on for four seasons. The role was also famously played by actors like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine prior to Krasinski. Peña is expected to make an appearance in the final episode of the fourth season, in line with the announcement Amazon made about Peña’s reveal last October. It comes as no surprise that the script for the spinoff has not yet been confirmed since the third season of Jack Ryan has not yet had its officia...
