French president Emmanuel Macron went to Japan last week to attend the opening ceremonies for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as well as take part in summit meetings with Japan’s prime minister, Yoshihide Suga. However, Macron also took the time to meet with a group of legendary otaku artists as part of his itinerary — being an unlikely otaku, as reported by Sora News 24. This influx of people moving away from long hours at home is creating quite an issue for animal shelters as pet owners that acquired their pets during the pandemic can now no longer care for their animals. Shelters like Animal Care Centers of NYC saw twice the number of animals brought to them last month at 1,393 — more than doubling February’s numbers. An official Power Rangers restaurant has official opened in Japan. While referred to as Super Sentai in its home country, the Tokusatsu series has been around since 1975, bringing with it a number of fans that spans across different generations. This new restaurant, located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, doubles as a museum with tons of different original works from the franchise including the original Red Ranger’s suit. Food-wise, the main attraction is the restaurant’s curry selection that’s themed on the different generations of Power Rangers. Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons is reportedly in talks to return as his role as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming HBO Max film, Batgirl. Simmons recently returned as Gordon for Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Deadline reports, if Simmons takes on the role again, he will be acting alongside Leslie Grace who was recently cast to play the protagonist superhero, Batgirl. It is unsure if the film will closely stick to Batgirl’s titular origin story, but if that is the case, then Simmons will be playing Grace’s father in the film. For fans of Nickelodeon‘s Spongebob Squarepants, marine biologist Christopher Mah recently shared an image of “real life” SpongeBob Squarepants and Patrick Star. Taken by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration remotely operated deep-sea vehicle, the pair of sea life were spotted on an underwater mountain called Retriever Seamount, around 200 miles east of New York City and more than a mile below the Atlantic Ocean. Revealing their scientific names: Hertwigia (sponge) and Chondraster (starfish), Mah revealed that despite the colors being similar “most depictions of Patrick and Spongebob are incorrect.” Adding that sea sponges are more commonly orange or white in color and never in a square shape, while the carnivorous Chondraser starfish actually eat sea sponges. Amidst anticipation for the return of its anime, Shueisha‘s Bleach is now set to receive a special manga chapter to celebrate its 20th-anniversary. Written and illustrated by Tite Kubo, the Bleach manga came to an end August 22, 2016 with 698 chapters collected into 74 volumes. Since its debut in 2001, the series has sold over 120 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga of all time. According to reports, Jean-Claude Van Damme inadvertently aided robbers while shopping in Paris. The reports note that two suspects pulled off a jewelry store heist making off with between €2 and €3 million EUR ($2.37 and $3.56 million USD) with no witnesses simply because the Belgian action star was in the vicinity. Potential witnesses at a cafe near the jeweler all told French police that they did not see or hear anything as they were distracted by Van Damme who was trying on frames at an optician across the street.
