National Assembly raises 2021 budget by N580 billion, approves N13.588 trillion
The two chambers of the National Assembly yesterday passed the 2021 Appropriation Bill, increasing the budget size from N13.08 trillion presented to them by President Muhamnadu Buhari 11 weeks ago to N13.588 trillion. The passage of the 2021 budget followed consideration and adoption of harmonised reports separately submitted to them by their Committees on Appropriation. The two chambers increased the 2021 budget by about N580 billion and pegged daily crude oil production at 1.86 million barrels per day, while oil benchmark price was fixed at $40 per barrel. They approved N379 to dollar as the official exchange rate while GDP growth rate was pegged at 3 per cent. Edo APC writes off former chairman’s defection claims
Edo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday described claims by a former charman of the party, Anselm Ojezua that he was leaving the party with 150,000 members as spurious and unfounded. A statement yesterday by the State Assistant Publicity Secretary of the APC, Ofure Osehobor, said Ojezua had long left the party but that he was not popular enough to gather such a number of supporters being claimed. Senators decry executive’s disregard for resolutions on insecurity
Federal lawmakers, on Tuesday, deplored the federal government’s continued disregard for Senate’s resolutions on the issue of national security. The Senators spoke while contributing to a motion on the recent kidnapping of students at the Government Science School, Kankara, Katsina State. Senate faults minister for blaming legislature for bad roads
The Senate has described as, “fallacy of the highest order,” a statement credited to the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on the state of Nigerian roads. NCC contributes N2.272 trillion to Nigeria’s GDP – chief

Gunmen storm funeral, shoot top politicians, kidnap guests in Rivers
Unknown gunmen, Saturday, stormed Banigo Isile-Ogono community in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, shot sporadically and abducted several persons in a gory operation. Some of the abducted victims are identified as Sunny Hart, Thomas Allison and Theophilus Ibiama, among several others. Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, David Irimagha and lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Abinye Blessing Pepple, escaped being killed in the attack. Umar Danbatta: NCC remits N362.34 billion to Nigerian government
Fix Africa News Magazine Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta, says the commission remitted N362.34 billion into the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) of the Federal Government between 2015 and now. At an interactive session with media managers and news editors at the weekend, he also noted that broadband penetration jumped from six per cent in 2015 to 43.02 per cent by the end of June 2020 leading to 199,307,796 by the end of the first half of 2020.
