Denis Villeneuve has just released his new movie Dune and gotten the greenlight for the sequel, but the French-Canadian director already has some spice-y ideas to make it a trilogy. As he told The Hollywood Reporter, he hopes to base the third flick on Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah. “If things go well with Part Two, I could foresee the idea of maybe doing a third movie, Dune Messiah,” he said. “That would make sense to me.” The 1969 Messiah is set 12 years after 1965’s Dune. Without delving too far into spoilers — but still, minor spoilers to follow — it finds Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet in the films) struggling with the intersection of religion and bureaucracy, focused on his family and trying to reject his own deification. Dave Halls, the first assistant director on Rust, acknowledged to investigators that he did not do a thorough job checking a weapon for live rounds before handing it off to Alec Baldwin. Baldwin was seemingly unaware that the weapon, a Cult 45, was loaded when he fired it during rehearsals last Thursday, resulting in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. According to a police affidavit released on Wednesday (via Variety), Halls told detectives that he did not check all of the rounds. He also couldn’t recall if the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, had spun the drum of the weapon. In explaining the safety practices for weapons on set, Halls said, “I check the barrel for obstructions, most of the time there’s no live fire, [Hannah] opens the hatch and spins the drum, and I say ‘...
Back in 2011, Interpol and David Lynch joined forces for a special project at Coachella where they overlaid the director’s short film I Touch a Red Button Man with the band’s 2010 single “Lights.” Now, Interpol are releasing that collaboration as a limited series of eight NFTs through HIFI Labs. Lynch X Interpol includes newly recorded versions of “Lights” featuring [Interpol lead guitarist] Daniel Kessler on piano. Fans will also be given the opportunity to put their own creative touch on one of the NFTs in a “3D gallery,” with one lucky participant receiving the NFT for free. Auctions for Lynch X Interpol begin October 26th. This whole thing seems like something Lynch would be staunchly opposed to given his history with technology. A while back, he made it very clear that he thinks movie...
